During World War II, copper shortages pushed the U.S. Mint to test alternative materials for the one cent—including glass. Four have been submitted to PCGS: two damaged, one too fragile to even encapsulate. Graded PCGS SP64, this is the only intact 1942 glass cent ever found.

When Victor David Brenner placed his large “VDB” initials on the 1909 Lincoln Cent, they sparked controversy and were quickly removed. This PCGS MS66+BN example survived, and with green tones, it brings St. Patrick’s Day flair to Toner Tuesday. Do you have any VDB cents?

It’s National Panda Day, so celebrate with the Chinese Silver Panda. With a new design almost every year, the silver pandas are some of the most popular collectible bullion coins. This 2020 example features a giant panda mid-snack, waving at you. Do you have any silver pandas?

Only 700 of these two-ounce silver coins were made – bringing Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night to the public in miniature with sculpted brushstrokes and remarkable depth. This coin is legal tender, worth $2, and you can use it in Niue to purchase goods.

The 1884 Liberty Nickel is a common coin in all grades – up to MS65. PCGS estimates that only 200 MS65 or finer examples survive. Just two are graded PCGS MS67+, with none higher. This example earns its place at the top, boasting an extraordinary strike and lovely colors.

Thicker hair strands above the ear, a sharper hair pattern, a missing left serif on the “I” in “LIBERTY” – all telltale signs of an Accented Hair Kennedy Half Dollar. It’s a popular coin variety, and it doubles the price of a normal proof Kennedy from 1964.

@Burien_Enough @darrenrovell because it's an industry standard to not use gloves! wearing gloves has a higher risk of damaging, tearing or dropping the paper money -- especially if its as fragile as this piece! so our graders (who have authenticated D.B. Cooper notes in the past) use their clean hands!

I acquired one of the biggest bills found on the ground in 1980 that matched to the D.B. Cooper ransom. Yesterday, I extracted it from the case it has been in for 45 years to submit it for grading.

@darrenrovell Epic! If the guy wants it graded, let him grade it. It’s no different than anything else. It’s the owner’s privilege. Certainly a great piece of American history, regardless.

@hueydewlew @darrenrovell hi! it's a super valid concern if you're new to banknote authentication and grading, but it's actually not so insane. our graders use their bare hands rather than gloves to prevent damage and tears -- and to have better grip. it's an industry standard!

@kyiibaby @darrenrovell it's actually preferred to do this! using something like gloves can lead to a higher likelihood of damage and tears, so even our graders are using their clean hands 👐

@darrenrovell This money belongs to one of the most mysterious cases in criminal history, its serial numbers are recorded, and only a very small number of these bills have ever been found. Because of this, its collector value is extremely high.
