BOTH MASTS REMOVED Waverley’s foremast was removed on Friday 20th February as refit work continues. The mainmast was removed the previous day. Waverley now looks a little different in her profile with both masts removed. Meanwhile work continues with replacing the fire sprinkler system as old pipe work is stripped out. The deck heads in the Dining Saloon are now being removed to allow full access as seen in one image in this post. In the coming days it is expected that work will start on replacing the Dining Saloon windows. The replacement masts and windows are being funded thanks to those who have supported the Masts & Windows Winter Appeal. We are very grateful for all the support shown towards the appeal.

ONE MAST OFF - ONE MAST TO GO Today Waverley lost her main mast as it was lifted off the ship as work progresses on her extensive refit. Since arriving at Dales Marine Services yard on Monday 16th February work has progressed well with the removal of the main mast giving a visual display of work underway. It is expected that the fore mast will be removed in the coming days. Internally the deck head panels in the Jeanie Deans Lounge have been removed to allow access to the fire sprinkler system network of pipes. The old copper pipes are being removed to be replaced with stainless steel pipes for the new sprinkler system. Given the level of support for Waverley from those who sail on her and who donate regularly as a Friend of Waverley or who have donated to the Masts & Windows Winter Appeal we are able to heavily invest in the ship. By tackling large projects alongside the annual maintenance works we are helping to ensure she is able to paddle on for years to come. We would like to extend a massive THANK YOU to everyone that has donated to the Masts & Windows Winter Appeal as you have helped make today’s progress possible. In the weeks ahead we will continue to share more images showing the amount of work being done on Waverley as we prepare for her 2026 season and then come October we can celebrate the 80th Anniversary of her launch. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Ullapool Harbour Trust and Harbour Master Kevin Peach for enabling Waverley to visit Ullapool for the first time yesterday (22nd May). It was great to see such support from the local community. As it happened yesterday was the 49th anniversary of Waverley’s very first sailing in preservation - who could have imagined on that occasion in 1975 that all these years later she would be offering an excursion from Ullapool. Over the coming week Waverley is set to offer cruises from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. We do hope as many people as possible will step aboard Waverley this season and sail on the National Flagship of the Year 2024.
