4/4: It's a true shame the community can't find ways to get along and grow together.

3/4: While we do not condone bad behavior at all, and we would certainly take action when required, it seems that everyone has different levels of what action is appropriate, leading to sections of the community turning on the conference if their personal expectation is not met.

Thread 🧵 1/4: Lots of people have asked, why is there not another Pacific++. Organizing a conference is very stressful and involves a lot of outside people such as speakers, attendees, advisors, service workers on the day and more.

@dascandy42 Borders are still closed here. Not open until Oct for visitors requiring a visa (provided govt doesn't change its mind). This was only announced a few days ago. Will post any updates.

@xolvenz Conference name won't be changing. It would have to be multiple streams. Talks about other languages, although not directly relatable, still can provide valuable learnings.

Now the pandemic is coming to a close, we are looking to kick this thing back off late next year. Working with other languages like Go and Rust is an option too. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

@JaredMulconry The idea would be to continue as before. If the local groups of the other languages are interested we could add tracks of various languages.

@cppcast @robwirving @lefticus @pvsstudio_rus Interesting podcast as always. Wrt to @pacificplusplus I believe they announced the intention to have a conference in Sydney but did not announce dates. The conference was cancelled recently. Which is a shame because the 2018 conference that I got to attend was very good.

#CMake 3.16.0 has been released. Updates to my book "Professional CMake: A Practical Guide" are in progress, but you'll have to wait a few more weeks for the new edition - this has been quite a big release with some important new features! blog.kitware.com/cmake-3-16-0-a…
