Lydia Chibambo, @LChibambo77425, Coordinator, Zambia Climate Change Network, highlighted the urgency of strengthening climate-resilient agriculture in Africa 🌍 “Adaptation is becoming increasingly critical as climate impacts intensify, yet financing remains insufficient, with only a small share reaching the agriculture sector,” she noted, stressing the need for grant-based finance and locally driven solutions. She emphasized that with agriculture at the heart of Africa’s economies and livelihoods, scaling investment, technology, and agroecological approaches is key to safeguarding food security and resilience. #ClimateJustice #Adaptation #FoodSecurity #Africa

Tove Lexen, Policy Advisor-Climate WaterAid, Sweden, emphasized the central role of water in adaptation 🌍 “In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions still lack access to basic water, sanitation, and hygiene, closing this gap is critical for effective climate adaptation,” she noted, highlighting water as a cornerstone for resilience and development. She stressed the need for stronger indicators, clear methodologies, and increased finance to translate commitments into real impact on the ground. #ClimateJustice #Adaptation #Water

Dr. Yemi Katerere @KaterereYemi,Independent Environmental and Policy Expert, African Civil Society Biodiversity Alliance underscored the critical link between ecosystems and resilience 🌍 “Adaptation depends on biodiversity, when ecosystems collapse, the effectiveness of adaptation strategies is reduced,” he noted, emphasizing that healthy ecosystems are essential for food systems, water regulation, and community resilience. He called for more integrated approaches that bridge climate and biodiversity agendas to strengthen Africa’s adaptation efforts. #ClimateJustice #Adaptation #Biodiversity #RoadToCOP31

Continuing the conversation, Julius Ng’oma @juliusngoma, Coordinator, Civil Society Network on Climate Change, Malawi, highlighted key gaps in linking adaptation and loss & damage 🌍 “Tripling adaptation finance is not enough—we still lack clarity on baselines, and current resources fall far short of what is needed to address loss and damage,” he noted, stressing the need for clearer frameworks and stronger financing alignment. #ClimateJustice #LossAndDamage #AdaptationFinance

Building on the powerful contributions from speakers, Charles Mwangi, Head of Programs and Research PACJA, highlighted the urgent realities shaping adaptation finance 🌍 “Do we truly lack resources for climate action—or are our priorities misplaced?” he posed, pointing to the stark contrast between global spending on conflict and the persistent underfunding of climate action. He emphasized that even with commitments to double or triple adaptation finance, the gap remains vast—calling for pragmatic, grant-based solutions and stronger accountability to ensure Africa’s adaptation needs are met. #ClimateJustice #AdaptationFinance #Africa #RoadToCOP31

Thank you, Prof. Satishkumar Belliethathan, @SatishBellie for moderating today’s Road to COP31–32 Webinar on advancing the Belem–Addis Vision on Adaptation 🌍 Bertha Argueta, Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer at Eurodad, set the stage by highlighting key global trends: “COP30 marked a turning point for adaptation—both in advancing finance discussions and strengthening indicators to track progress, but much more is needed to ensure delivery reaches those most vulnerable.” Her remarks underscored the urgency of moving from commitments to measurable, impactful action across Africa and beyond. #ClimateJustice #Adaptation #Africa #RoadToCOP31

🌍 #WorldMeteorologicalDay 2026 Theme: Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow The latest State of the Global Climate 2025 report by the @WMO sends a clear warning: 🌡️ 2025 was among the top 3 warmest years ever, ~1.43°C above pre-industrial levels 🔥 The last 10+ years are the warmest on record 🌊 Oceans hit record heat levels, absorbing ~91% of excess energy 📈 CO₂ reached record highs, highest in 2 million years 🧊 Glaciers & sea ice continue to shrink at alarming rates 🌍 Sea levels are rising faster, threatening coastal communities Behind every number is a human story, food insecurity, displacement, and rising climate risks. This is why meteorological science matters: Accurate data, forecasting, and early warning systems are critical to saving lives and building resilience. 📢 Today, we call for: ✔️ Increased investment in climate and weather observation systems ✔️ Strengthened early warning services for vulnerable communities ✔️ Urgent climate action grounded in science Because observing today is the only way to protect tomorrow. #ClimateAction #WMO #EarlyWarningsForAll #ClimateJustice #AdaptationNow

🌍International Day of Forests 2026! This year’s theme "Forests and Economies" reminds us that sustainable forest management is not just environmental, it is an economic necessity. Forests are more than landscapes, they are vital economic assets that sustain livelihoods, support industries, and protect our planet. Across Africa, they provide food, energy, and income while strengthening climate resilience and biodiversity. PACJA continues to champion community-led forest restoration and policy action that protects ecosystems while strengthening local economies. 🌿 🔗 Explore our work: shorturl.at/lStte 🌳 Join the movement: Let’s protect what we have and scale up forest cover through restoration, sustainable land use, and bold climate action. #ForestsAndEconomies #IDF2026 #ClimateJustice #RestoreOurForests

We were proud to participate in today’s Africa Resilience Dialogues Webinar on #COP30 and Africa: From Outcomes to Action. Convened under the #Africa4Resilience platform, the discussion brought together key voices to unpack critical priorities for the continent: - Advancing the Global Goal on Adaptation - Driving a Just Transition in Africa’s context - Scaling up and delivering adaptation finance As the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (#PACJA), we contributed to the dialogue by emphasizing the urgency of people-centered climate action, equitable finance, and ensuring African voices shape global climate decisions. The conversation reaffirmed that moving from commitments to implementation is critical—and Africa must be at the center of that transition. #ClimateJustice #Adaptation #JustTransition #AfricaCOP

Dr. Cromwell Lukorito emphasized the urgent need for Africa-led, evidence-based engagement in global climate policy processes! He noted that while climate change discussions often shape global frameworks, Africa’s realities remain underrepresented in the evidence that informs these policies—risking solutions that fail to address the continent’s needs. “Without strong, Africa-based evidence, we risk building policies that do not reflect our realities or support our development pathways.” Dr. Lukorito highlighted that climate policy for Africa must go beyond global narratives to address livelihoods, economic development, and ecosystem sustainability. On geopolitics and Africa’s positioning, he stressed: 🔹 The need to rethink engagement with UN processes through data, research, and local expertise 🔹 The importance of ensuring African scientists and institutions shape global assessment reports 🔹 The urgency of building credible evidence to unlock adaptation finance He raised critical questions around key global concepts: 🔹 What does a “Just Transition” mean for Africa, given its low emissions? 🔹 What are the metrics and starting points for Africa’s transition? 🔹 How do global mitigation frameworks align with Africa’s development priorities? He underscored that adaptation remains Africa’s top priority, calling for: ✔️ Clear indicators for tracking progress in water, food systems, and infrastructure ✔️ Increased and accessible adaptation finance ✔️ Context-specific solutions grounded in African realities He also pointed to the need for scaling renewable energy, particularly solar, to power Africa’s industrialization—while noting the lack of clear investment estimates and financing pathways. #ClimateJustice #AfricaCOP #PACJA #ClimateFinance #JustTransitionD
