I’m going to tell you what majority of football academy owners won’t tell you. And I hope it helps some young aspiring football players out there. I tell my players at meetings everyday. Hoping to make a career playing football in Nigeria or anywhere in Africa is a pipe dream. Especially if your desire is to play abroad And I’ll tell you why. Before an European team travels down to Africa to scout for players, it must be one of these few reasons, 1. They desperately lack that profile in the first team. 2. They couldn’t find that profile in their B team. 3. They have also looked at the U19 they don’t know if anyone will be able to break through in 6 months or in a year. If there is anyone who could break through they will rather wait. 4. Then they look at the first teams of weaker teams in their league to see if they can find one they could take off these less privileged teams, like the way Chelsea just buys player from Brighton every three market days. 5. If they can’t find then they look at this weaker team’s B team, U23 or U19 to see if they can find anyone and take them. The way Barcelona takes almost the best boys around Barcelona .And just so you know for every weak team there will always be a team weaker. 6. If they can’t find this profile in any teams from the same league, then they look toward the lower division, let’s say for example they look at championships. And mind you some countries have up to 4th tier and they can ransack each teams from all these tiers. Both their first teams and youth teams. 7. If they can’t find that profile, then they try to look at the neighboring countries, I mean for example a Swedish club looking for a profile in the Finnish league. 8. Then they look at team Bs of these teams in these smaller countries, look at their lower levels like the second divisions. 9 . Then if they can’t find they will now consider going out of their continent. You see where you’re in the scheme of things ? 10, This is where history becomes interesting which country has constantly showed success in the talents they’ve produced over the years, they mostly want to go there first. 11, They consider other factors like safety . Travel ease and people they know in these countries first. 12. In Ibadan alone there are over 200 academies just to keep it low as I’m sure there might be more . lagos probably has close to 500 or more , then you have 36 states. Not to talk of Africa as a whole. So what’s your chance of actually making it out to play in Europe? I’m not saying all clubs in the world adopt this model, but majority of these clubs do. And if you chose football as a career, you’ve got to give it all your all. When I say all your all, you have to be willing to do what 99% of other people are not willing to do. And this also still doesn’t guarantee success. I hope this helps someone out there today that no matter how far you are in this pyramid . Anything is possible. But if you want to choose this career path , someone needs to tell you this everyday. And I hope you find what you’re looking for.

When I say as an African dreaming of playing in Europe, that includes people who record their videos and send to agents and clubs, it also includes people who travel for international tournament, and people who pay all the bills to get themselves to Europe, it doesn’t matter how. It applies to you.
