The Chronicle building turns 100 this week! 🗞️🎂🥂 I wouldn't have known about our birthday — no one would — if it weren't for a mysterious black photo book passed through generations of @sfchronicle librarians. A short thread ... 🧵 sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

@kimmaicutler Truth! I spend my time in S.F. historic archives and generational reinvention IS our history. That’s why I don’t sweat a dead mall, and look suspiciously at political players claiming they will “save” the city. We need to solve our problems. But it’s also a self-cleaning oven.

Detour from my usual @sfchronicle archive finds. We heard the 1920s Klan filled an Oakland arena. Turns out 5,000 gathered in Daly City, they marched in Richmond's July 4 parade and burned crosses on Twin Peaks ... twice. History has so many lessons. sfchronicle.com/oursf/article/…

@tvaziri The dialogue around PHM (and so many other films) enrages me. Diverse groups of artists collaborate with filmmakers to make something that when those groups vibe is increasingly seamless. And because of that seamlessness dialogue focuses on excluding/insulting part of that team

The filmmakers are being very clear here, giving credit where credit is due, and being extremely generous with their public gratitude towards the digital visual effects artists that create the worlds you see on the big screen. Visual effects are made by artists.

Shout out to the amazing work on @projecthailmary by the team at @ILMVFX! All of these shots (& many hundreds more) were made entirely digitally by the amazing artists there. Many of the most jaw-dropping shots are thanks to them!

Bulldozers were ready to level this S.F. peak. Now it has some of the city's best views. This @sfchronicle column started as a simple underrated park visit, but it's a stealth treatise about the value of local journalism. RIP Harold Gilliam. 🌁❤️ sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

San Francisco has a bicycle club called "Fat Cake" that ends every ride at a bakery. @sfchronicle photographer Stephen Lam & I had to check it out. The visuals in this are amazing. So were the pastries. Gift link! 🎁🚴‍♂️ sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

Super fun read for your Sunday! We asked the question: How did S.F. homes get so colorful? The answer was a journey, involving battleship paint, psychedelics and a rainbow home near the Painted Ladies. (Which were once zoned for demolition! 🤯) 🏠🌈 sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

Did you watch “The Pitt”? Did the end-of-episode cliffhanger feel familiar? I dug through the @sfchronicle archive & wrote about the ripped from the headlines 1990s Bay Area disaster that apparently inspired the HBO medical drama’s writers Gift link 🎁 sfchronicle.com/entertainment/…

“In many ways it’s a time capsule. And it will be here for another 100 years.” For the Grand Lake’s centennial 🎂🍿 I wrote about a romance between a man and architecture — and how it rescued the best theater in the Bay Area. Gift link for The Town 🌳🎁 sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

@TheJoeyBarrett @NBACobwebs As someone who has lived in The Bay Area all of his life and has been fortunate enough to have Papa broadcast for a team here in some fashion since 1987, agree with you 100% on his abilities.

I wish Greg Papa was still the voice of the spurs (well, assuming he’s healthy that is) as the dude is definitely 1 of 1 as far as his abilities behind the mic… 🐐

February 14, 1998: Rookie Tim Duncan blocks the Suns' Hot Rod Williams three times in five seconds. Duncan finished with 30 PTS/11 REB/5 BLK but Phoenix won in San Antonio, 94-81. Jason Kidd had 29 PTS/11 REB/5 AST to lead the Suns (33-16) over the Spurs (34-16). 📺 NBA Action

@UKenerley @NBCSWarriors I’m not a broadcast major but Tim Rohy is rock solid. Love him on the radio & always a treat when he gets the TV call. Hope Fitz is well but I was so stoked to hear Tim on the call today!

@NBCSWarriors I'm sorry but as a broadcast journalism major, this guy doesn't have the on air charisma to call for TV. That being said I hope Bob Fitzgerald is okay and will be back soon!

My fav S.F. animal story of all time: Golden Gator. The Presidio alligator that sparked a 1996 newspaper war, inspired my former editor to wear scuba gear and eluded trappers for months. A look back at the circus … and where he is now. Gift link! 🐊🎁 sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…

“There is no pundit I trust more than history.” A look back at an 1800s ballpark on Market Street (!!!) and how it should give us hope when looking at our dismal downtown dead mall. sfchronicle.com/totalsf/articl…
