Following on #honeygate (yes I'm calling that hashtag now) I'm digging into my own historical affiliate income data. I knew that I felt my affiliate income dropped and never recovered at some point, and the data proves that. Around the beginning of 2021 my affiliate income dropped and never recovered -- and of course over this time, my audience and viewership grew, so this should have been the opposite. On its own it's certainly not proof of Honey interference, but it's data, and I encourage other creators to look into their own data and see if you detect a similar trend.
This data represents affiliate earnings from Jan 2017 to Nov 2024. Blue line is monthly income; red line is a four month moving average. PayPal acquisition of Honey (Jan 2020) COVID lockdown (March 2020), and affiliate income drop (beginning 2021) are highlighted here.
I removed affiliate income that could not have been affected by Honey, and while this may not be a perfect graph, I feel confident in its relevance.
You can see a pretty clear trend upwards, which spiked during the first year of COVID, but then fell and never recovered, and could even be called a constant down trend. 2024 is the worst year since 2017.
