The Stonewall National Monument has officially been declared as an endangered landmark following years of pushback by the Trump administration.
Earlier this year (12 February), over 1,000 community members and officials gathered in Lower Manhattan’s Christopher Park in Greenwich Village to reraise the Pride flag at the Stonewall Monument after it was quietly taken down — with the National Park service citing January guidance from the Trump administration that limits the type of flags that can be displayed at sites it manages.
The Stonewall Inn was the site of the powerful uprising on 28 June 1969, and the reason Pride Month is held in June each year.
The gathering followed days of condemnation from city, state, and federal leaders who criticized the removal. Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the removal “deeply outrageous” and said that “no act of erasure will ever change, or silence, that history.”
He added that the city has a “duty not just to honor this legacy, but to live up to it” and promised to continue fighting for LGBTQ+ dignity and protection.
Happy birthday to Academy Award-winning actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph!
Randolph is a staunch LGBTQ+ ally, and has endeared herself to the queer community through her advocacy and playing bisexual cop Detective Donna Williams in ‘Only Murders in the Building’.
Upon winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in ‘The Holdovers’ in 2024, Randolph was applauded for her commitment to authenticity. “For so long, I've always wanted to be different, and now I realise I just need to be myself,” she said. “And I thank you for seeing me.”

Happy birthday to Tom Daley!
The gay Olympic diver has been a dedicated advocate for the LGBTQ+ community since he publicly came out in 2013, and regularly speaks about the barriers faced by queer athletes, and queer people around the world.
In a 2022 interview with the Daily Beast, he said: “I was terrified when I came out. I felt like I had to be brave, to press the button. So many other people are braver than I ever had to be, people who are out and existing in countries where their lives are at risk. That’s where true bravery lies.”
He continued: “I had the support of my family. Others may be coming from a religious background, which means coming out takes an extraordinary amount of bravery.”
