I asked Grok to explain why the SAVE act is blocked by a zombie filibuster
Buckle up:
This would be hilarious if it weren't so stupid
> SAVE act itself has 53/47 majority support
> can't be passed because the 47 can **just silently object** indefinitely, so the bill would need 60 votes to pass
> this is the "zombie filibuster" - literally no effort needed
> ..wait so can't they just end the zombie filibuster so that bills can pass with a simple majority?
> yes, yes they could
> that would only take 51 votes to change procedure
> ..so they could do it right now?
> yes
> ..so why don't they?
> they don't want to because then it might be used against them next time the senate flips
What in the actual f* ?!
So an absolutely essential voter security bill with 85% public support, is blocked by a few Republicans who don't want to change procedure because they're anticipating losing in a few months, and a few Democrats who will vote as a block against any Republican measure no matter how bipartisan it is.
I love America, and am disgusted with our politicians.
Democrats don't want to allow electoral security to pass, and Republicans just like losing.
