Field Day Stop at the seeded Zoysiagrass was easily one of the most talked-about stops of the day. The seeded zoysia plots from Dr. Fraser and the Pure-Seed Testing team looked incredible, handling the heat so well and staying lush, green, and soft. Seeded zoysia is still pretty rare, so seeing this kind of progress toward viable seed production and future cultivars is exciting. Dr. Kevin Kenworthy (University of Florida) shared some great perspectives on warm-season breeding and how long-term partnerships really drive innovation. One of the coolest moments he pointed out, was that a potential PST cultivar actually traces back to germplasm he sent years ago.

Pure Seed at the 2026 ASTA Leadership Summit Lucas Solis represented Pure Seed as a panel speaker at the 2026 ASTA Leadership Summit in Milwaukee, where he spoke on bridging the gap between new talent and managers in the seed industry. Crystal Ficker, Vice Chair of ASTA, joined him in Milwaukee for three days of learning, advocacy, and connection with seed industry professionals from across the country. Just like that, another incredible Field Day in North Carolina is in the books! This one was historic not only because it was the 40th, but also because it followed an exceptional drought: no rain for 26 days and a dry spring.
