Got a new essay out today in the The New York Times . The argument: we should address issues like prior authorizations and care denials, but if we want to lower premiums and health spending, we need to focus on hospital pricing. Cite a a book called The Silent World of Doctor and Patient by Jay Katz that Lainie Ross assigned when I was an undergrad that gets at why it’s hard to both be grateful for care and hold health care providers accountable. Let me know your thoughts. nytimes.com/2026/05/04/opi…

Hundreds of foreign doctors planning to treat underserved patients in the U.S. are in limbo. If the government doesn't expedite their visa waiver applications, most will have to leave by the end of July. @Ajzionts reports ⤵️ kffhealthnews.org/health-industr…

Hospital CEOs are currently testifying in front on Congress. @ahahospitals just held its annual meeting, and @_daniel_payne caught this extremely candid quote from Chuck Schumer showing just how much lobbying power hospitals have. statnews.com/2026/04/27/for…

Want to know how ridiculous and awful Ins company and their PBM denials are? The insurance company that denies the claim, that is if it’s them and not a subcontractor like medica , also picked the network and doctors.   So they are saying the network, that they sold to plan holders as being great, isn’t good enough for them to trust enough to determine your care. And on top of that, they charge to appeal denials. Which is a problem for many people.  That should be illegal.  And on top of that 60 pct of plan holders have plans from self insured employers.  It’s the company’s money.   But the ceo has no idea that the carrier they hired to authorize care , may have denied life or death care.   They don’t know that for some amount of money they may be able to save the life or maintain the health  of an employee or their family.  Require all TPAs to inform the CSuite of all critical denials , same day  They Are Too Big to Care. Break Up Big Medicine.

Some cancer survivors face nonstop medical bills even years after treatment. They’re unlikely to see change under the GOP’s health care proposals as their costs keep rising. @renurayasam reports ⤵️ kffhealthnews.org/health-care-co…

"Over the past decade, real estate investment trusts have bought thousands of buildings that house nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities+medical offices" Public records show "these landlords have more influence than the health care facilities publicly acknowledge"

A 100-year-old woman died of hypothermia after being found outside her assisted living facility in the middle of the night. A jury decided the landlord — a publicly traded real estate company — deserved some of the blame. kffhealthnews.org/news/article/r…

I'll have a story on All Things Considered today about the Rural Health Transformation Program + the fallout from the closure of a dialysis clinic in rural Nebraska. It's expected to air around 5:44 pm (all time zones). Listen at npr.org or on your local station.

When medical bills started rolling in, a Florida woman wondered why her insurance suddenly wasn’t covering them. The answer? She owed a balance of 5 cents, so her insurer canceled her policy. @RosenthalHealth reports ⤵️ kffhealthnews.org/news/article/i…
