🇲🇩 Belgium is sending emergency aid to Moldova. Via B-FAST, we are deploying filter dams and purification tanks to contain an oil spill in the Nistru River, Moldova's lifeline for drinking water. The cause? Russian air strikes on a Ukrainian hydroelectric power station. We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms. This is also what war does: it poisons rivers across borders, cuts off drinking water to hundreds of thousands of people, and turns an ecological disaster into a humanitarian emergency. Moldova did not choose this. But its people are paying the price. We stand with them. Belgium also continues to invest in long-term sustainable water solutions for Moldova, drawing on the expertise of our Belgian companies. @BelgiumMFA @MihaiPopsoi

The EU has deployed emergency assistance from 🇷🇴 & 🇱🇺 via its Civil Protection Mechanism in response to the petroleum contamination of Nistru river in Moldova. We are now mobilising our own #rescEU reserves to send specialised protective equipment to the 🇲🇩 first responders.

Today, as part of the Moldova Growth Plan, we are delivering €189 million following the successful completion of 24 key reforms. Moldova is advancing reforms at record speed, boosting investor confidence and reshaping its future.

Russia’s attack on the Novodnistrovsk hydropower plant in Ukraine has polluted the Nistru, a vital source of drinking water for most of the citizens of Moldova. This is a reminder that Russia’s war does not stop at Ukraine’s borders. We stand in solidarity with the Republic of Moldova. Together with our Member States, the European Commission is ready to provide support through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
