Tokenized assets and DeFi are still completely disconnected. @laszlo__szabo on why we built Railnet – and why the leading, regulated asset managers are already on it.

Stablecoins are a network effects game. The growth of the stablecoin economy is creating revenue opportunities at every layer of the stack: lending, custody, cards, cross-border payments, and the infrastructure that issues and services these assets.

Onchain finance is acquiring the functions institutional capital needs: management, credit terms, eligibility.

ERC-8161 is now an official Ethereum standard. It lets pending vault positions be transferred before settlement, instead of remaining locked in the original vault. That makes it easier to move assets and build more flexible institutional workflows. eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-8161

Value used to flow into DeFi to earn DeFi-native returns. Now the yield-bearing assets come from offchain and settle onchain. The chain becomes the settlement and distribution layer.

Vaults as the Trojan horse into traditional finance, watch Theo explain why 👇 Looking forward to the full episode tomorrow.
Laszlo Szabo@laszlo__szabo

Recorded a @railnet_org Talks episode with @TFGolden form @BaillieGifford, dropping next week. I loved the analogy he made for where vaults are headed: “It’s like if you took an ETF and a mutual fund and made them have a baby, and it got all of the best genes. That’s kind of what a vault is going to look like. If we move to the phase where a vault is seen as a regulated collective investment scheme, that could be absolutely transformational. In the next five years, maybe even three, that will happen.” Full episode out tomorrow 🎥

The next phase of onchain asset management likely runs through tier-one managers with long track records offchain. Given the risk profile of DeFi, trust in the counterparty becomes a primary filter – one of the core beliefs behind our decision to work with @CoinSharesCo.

Institutional demand is moving toward multi-source yield and tokenized RWAs. But vault standards model single-asset liquidity, so multi-asset strategies inherit every delay. Unlocking that liquidity incrementally requires state tracking the standards don't provide.

JPMorgan, State Street and Invesco are all moving to tokenize money market funds onchain. It's an early step toward a much larger shift analysts estimate could reach anywhere from $1.9T to $100T.

Looped borrow-and-farm yields are sensitive to market conditions: returns compress when incentive emissions taper while borrow costs remain. This points to a broader question about which sources of onchain yield are sustainable across a full cycle.

Onchain yield originated as a leverage loop – borrow, farm, loop. As fintechs and institutions move to access stablecoin yield, expectations are starting to shift toward risk-managed strategies that allocate across risk and optimize for risk-adjusted returns.

Distribution and demand for onchain asset management are already here. What's missing, per @ShiliangTang, Managing Partner at @monarq_mgmt (backed by @FalconXGlobal), is a common approach to measuring, reporting, and auditing risk in real time.

Fintechs tell us the same thing: after stablecoins, they want to offer yield. But every protocol has its own integration surface and risk, and curators often misbehave. So they come to us – Railnet brings sophisticated managers' strategies onchain and opens them up to fintechs.

Circle's @arc is a stablecoin-native L1 built for institutional finance: USDC gas, deterministic finality, EVM-compatible. Kiln is preparing to support Arc validator infrastructure and will make Arc-native yield accessible through @railnet_org at launch. kiln.fi/post/inside-ar…

Onchain funds go further than a new wrapper. A world where allocators can verify every position in real time instead of waiting for a quarterly report to tell them where their capital went. Thanks @CoinSharesCo for having us.
