Politics and Prosecco in Calgary did not disappoint. Huge thank you to MLA Rebecca’s Schulz @rebeccakschulz and her UCP constituency association of Calgary-Shaw for hosting, along with Calgary-Peigan MLA Tanya Fir @tanya_fir for joining. What a packed room of smart, funny, politically engaged women who help run this province every single day. From business and community leadership to public life, Alberta is stronger because of you.

I would like to offer my sincere appreciation and most heartfelt thanks to the Honourable Rebecca Schulz who has served as Minister of Environment and Protected Areas since 2023, and as MLA for Calgary-Shaw since 2019. Rebecca previously served as the Minister of Children Services and as the Minister of Municipal Affairs. I have accepted her resignation from cabinet effective January 2, 2026 and look forward to continuing to work closely with her as she continues to serve as the MLA for Calgary-Shaw and a member of our UCP caucus until the spring. I wish Rebecca and her family all of the best when she seeks new career opportunities. On January 2, the Honourable Grant Hunter, MLA for Taber-Warner and Associate Minister  for Water will be sworn in as Alberta’s new Minister of Environment and Protected Areas. He brings with him years of experience as an MLA and minister, having also previously served as the Associate Minister for Red-tape Reduction. MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat, Justin Wright will become the Chief Government Whip for the United Conservative Caucus. I’d like to offer my congratulations to both Grant and Justin as they take on these new roles and responsibilities.

Albertans are tired of the last 10 years of the federal government’s unsustainable immigration policies putting huge burdens on our education, healthcare, and housing sectors. It’s time we start having a hard conversation about exercising more control over immigration policy and whether the province should limit eligibility for social services only to citizens, permanent residents, and individuals with an immigration permit granted by the Alberta government. Today, we want to wish every Jewish family across Alberta, a happy Hanukkah. As Jewish Albertans mark the beginning of Hanukkah, our hearts and prayers must also remain with the Jewish community in Australia, who are mourning a horrific act of violence on this sacred holiday. We will always stand with Jewish Albertans against hate and antisemitism and in solidarity with their communities. As the menorah shines through Alberta’s winter nights, may this season inspire strength and the warmth of community across our province.

Alberta is turning the corner on health care. Under Minister Matt Jones’s Acute Care Action Plan we are adding more than 1,000 new hospital beds in Edmonton and Calgary, delivering 50,000 additional surgeries over the next three years, expanding NICU care for our newborns and planning hospital expansions at the Grey Nuns, Misericordia and South Health Campus. This is how we cut wait times, back our front line teams and give Albertans the world class care they deserve.
Matt Jones@MattJonesYYC

Alberta’s Acute Care Action Plan is making immediate investments to support and stabilize the health care system and sets six priorities for a health care system that works for Albertans now and into the future. To learn more, please watch the video below:

Notoriously anti-energy and anti-Alberta Toronto Star columnist says Alberta pipeline deal will lead us closer to “climate armageddon”. This is the same “columnist” who to nobody’s surprise (and isn’t mentioned anywhere in her description), is a two-time failed NDP candidate, who was also once condemned by Prime Minister Harper for suggesting Athabasca oil should remain in the ground… This same columnist also mourned the death of the murderous Communist dictator of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez in 2013…calling it a “sad milestone” according to Maclean’s Magazine. We won’t be taking this advice any time soon.
Linda McQuaig@LindaMcQuaig

Carney’s posturing on climate is nothing but a fig-leaf. His sweetheart deal with Alberta is a complete surrender to Big Oil. #climate #cdnpoli thestar.com/opinion/contri…

Alberta communities are better protected than ever from future floods. We’ve updated more flood mapping in the past five years than the previous 35 years combined. Five more communities, including Hinton and Yellowhead County, Vegreville and Minburn County, Stettler and Stettler County, Red Deer County and Markerville, and Calgary and Foothills County now have nearly 300 kilometres of new and updated flood maps. Check out the quick video below for more on what we’re doing to protect Albertans from floods👇 alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…

Alberta continues to lead the way on job creation across the country, while at the same time, seeing one of the largest dips in unemployment: “More than 28,000 new jobs were created in Alberta last month, making up more than half of the increased employment in the country — despite weak oil prices. What’s just as impressive is Alberta’s unemployment rate, which has served as an anchor on the provincial economy this year, has not only budged but it’s rapidly falling, dropping from 7.8 per cent in October to 6.5 per cent last month.” 👇

This week the NDP voted against our motion to protect Albertans’ right to defend their homes and families. The NDP may not like it, but I will never apologize for standing up for Albertans.

It was great to join the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC) for their 2025 State of the Industry Luncheon in Calgary. It was great to listen to Premier @ABDanielleSmith deliver a keynote address and participate in a fireside chat with Tristan Goodman from EPAC on the issues that matter most to industry, how best to overcome the challenges our industry is facing today and how to keep our industry strong and people working across the country. Thanks to Mark Scholz and his team for putting on this event that grows bigger every year!

BREAKING: I just announced that our government will introduce a motion under the Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act next week. This motion will protect lawful gun owners from improper seizures and prosecution, and ensure Albertans can protect their homes, families, and property.

4,000+ Albertans from across our great province came together for the 2025 United Conservative Party AGM in Edmonton this weekend. It was great to catch up with members and friends from all over Alberta, and join Premier @ABDanielleSmith on stage for the Ministerial Bearpit session to hear directly from the grassroots members of our party. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this great weekend and the team who pulled it together!

It was so great to join my cabinet colleagues this morning in Edmonton at the 2025 Rural Municipalities Convention. I always look forward to this event and connecting with locally-elected officials from across rural Alberta. We heard directly from rural municipalities about the issues that matter most to them, and it was great to answer some questions from everything to water management and water allocations, to responsible development and growing communities. Thank you all for the great discussions!
