In Sudan, the gunmen are our own and, yes, they are the problem. But the real gunmen are the suppliers of these weapons—the manufacturers of these evil machines—who supply them in exchange for our natural resources, rendering our countries uninhabitable. Suppose we follow what people who’ve never known war in the West say: “Don’t run away; defend your country; take up arms and fight.” Who do we fight? The poor gunman who has been brainwashed? The poor gunman who is one of our own? The poor gunman who speaks our tongue, identifies as Sudanese, and claims he would do anything to make the country livable? “Fight imperialism,” they say; “fight capitalism; fight corruption; fight the subjugating West whose hands arrive via Egypt, Turkey, the UAE, CAR, Libya, Kenya,” etc. This genocide is not only the wrongdoing of the executioner in the field.

Believe me, I cannot tell you how many times a day I hold my breath, clench my teeth, and feel my stomach turn at the horrors that Black African people—labeled as “migrants” and “refugees” —endure in North Africa. One of those horrors is here. In this video is a Gambian national with severe burns inflicted on him in Sfax, Tunisia. And yet, people sit comfortably in Europe and say, “Why are they coming here. It’s not our fault what they experience on the way. It’s the Tunisians, the Libyans.” They say this with total ignorance—or rather arrogance—ignoring the fact that Europe finances the very system that enables these crimes. 🔶 It is Europe that creates the so-called migration management policies. 🔶 It is Europe that outsources its responsibilities to Libya, Tunisia, and their coastal regions. 🔶 It is Europe whose moral compass has collapsed. 🔶 It is Europe whose indifference is killing. 🔶 It is Europe that does not allow Africa to breathe and grow, to meet the needs and aspirations of its young people. For now, I leave it to you: When we receive such evidence—images and videos of human beings brutalised—what should we do with them?

Oh dear @cochetel, here you are again. Did you just use the word “illegal”? Isn’t “irregular” more befitting, given your past as a humanitarian aid worker? It is often assumed that those of your experience carry a certain sense of honour, if any of that remains, please make use of it. Also, I do not know whether you are addressing this as a French national or as a state official.
vincent cochetel@cochetel

There is no limbo, either they apply for asylum in one of the countries they have come through, either they are illegal on the French territory & should be sent back. This mismagement has been there for decades.

A month ago, on the 16th of March, I started a hunger strike together with two comrades, Giel Malual and John Kuei, to raise attention to the situation in South Sudan, with particular focus on Akobo County in Jonglei State, where, a month earlier, government forces had massacred over 162 unarmed civilians and displaced more than 300,000 people into neighboring Ethiopia. The hunger strike was, in our view, the only option left to us, given that for over 20 years the government has failed to build and maintain a peaceful South Sudan. At the same time, it aimed to raise emergency funds, with €10,000 as our initial target to end the strike. We reached this goal on the fifth day, thanks to the generous donations we received and the thousands who shared the call. By using our bodies, we felt not only closer to the thousands who are being starved, but we were also able to reach over 450 donors accumulating over 11,000€ and engaged more than 8 million social media accounts across platforms. On the ground, we were able to distribute grains to over 150 households, each with a minimum of seven family members. We also supported the relocation of more than 5,000 vulnerable people who were stranded in the bush to neighboring Ethiopia, where a camp now hosts over 200,000 displaced people. As someone who has been displaced since birth and has never had a stable life up to this moment, undertaking a hunger strike willingly was one of the hardest choices and experiences for me—especially because I have already endured hunger for over 24 years, moving from one refugee camp to another. At other times being starved against my will as a means of punishment. In recent weeks, we have knocked on the doors of European institutions and governments—some of which we believe are complicit in what is happening in South Sudan, and others that we believe have both the influence and the responsibility to act. We have also formed the “Community for Justice in South Sudan” to engage international justice mechanisms and seek accountability for the victims. The funds raised are, of course, small compared to the scale of need. But it remains our collective duty to save even a single life—a child who might otherwise die from starvation. Please continue sharing the donation link and donate if you can. (gofund.me/a7945bbd0) Do what you can, in your own capacity, to raise awareness about the situation in South Sudan.

Criminal complaints are filed! In September, the so-called Libyan coastguard opened fire on our 66 guests & us while we were completing a rescue operation. To date, neither the German nor the Italian government, nor the EU, has taken any action. sea-watch.org/en/sea-watch-f…

THE #ALMASRI CASE IS FAR FROM CLOSED! The Constitutional Court may decide whether to allow Lam Magok to obtain justice. By releasing and returning the alleged torturer to #Libya, Ministers Nordio and Piantedosi, together with Undersecretary Mantovano, have effectively prevented the opening of an international trial. With the Italian Parliament having voted immunity for the individuals mentioned above, it has also blocked any criminal proceedings in Italy. This means completely depriving a human being of the possibility of obtaining truth and justice. On Monday, the Court will decide whether Lam can be admitted to challenge the constitutionality of the law implementing the Rome Statute, which governs Italy’s cooperation with the @IntlCrimCourt.

Khaled El Hishri now stands before the ICC. This is not only the trial of one man. It is a rare opening on the situation in Libya since 2011 where so much has been buried, denied, or forgotten. If you were detained in Mitiga Prison between 2015 and early 2020, or if someone you know was taken, harmed, or never returned, your voice is not lost. It still has a place and one of those places is at the @internationalcriminalcourt Justice, in its truest form, is not given. It is built piece by piece, through your testimony, through memory, through the courage to say: this and that happened. Together with ECCHR, we are supporting survivors to register as victims before the ICC in this trial against El Hishri and the RADA militias. This is not only about the past. It is about recognition, dignity, and the possibility however distant of repair. If this concerns you or someone you know, reach out. You do not have to walk this path alone. Apply before 4 May 2026 to be included in the first stage. libya@ecchr.eu info@refugeesinlibya.org WhatsApp / Signal: +49 171 949 4277 #MitigaPrison #ICC #Justice #Libya

Selfies at crime scenes—this is what Libyan militias do every day with impunity, something that would not be possible if they did not know that European politicians and institutions are backing them. They capture vulnerable refugees fleeing Libya at gunpoint and force them back to Libya, where they are subjected to torture, rape, arbitrary detention, forced labor, and death. The boats used to carry out these interceptions are supplied by Europe. This is why we are calling on the @IntlCrimCourt to investigate European governments, its politicians and institutions for aiding and abetting crimes against humanity in Libya. These militias are from the Tobrouk, section which is under Tariq Bin Ziad.

Sempre grazie a @nelloscavo e @Avvenire_Nei. avvenire.it/attualita/lonu…
