A Honduran national, Jose Ignacio Bonilla Garcia, has been charged with raping an unconscious man in Amityville and brutally beating him when he resisted. He now faces prosecution and deportation.
Cases like this show why cooperation between all levels of law enforcement is essential. Efforts to limit that coordination make it harder to ensure violent offenders are fully removed from our communities.
Suffolk County families deserve safe streets and policies that put public safety first.

Big congrats to Suffolk County's own Dr. William Morse, a Brookhaven National Laboratory physicist, on winning the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, the “Oscars of Science.” 🏆
Proud to have fought for and secured $25 million above the President’s budget request for BNL’s cutting-edge electron ion collider, multiplying the impact of the incredible work being done by scientists and engineers like Dr. Morse right here on Long Island.

As the only Northeast Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, I'm making sure Long Island gets its fair share from Washington.
This week, we advanced bills that help those who feed Long Island families, protect our food supply, strengthen our national security, and fund soft power that protects America’s national and economic security.
The two bills we passed out of committee include nearly $560M to feed Long Island families and seniors, $209M to protect our specialty crops, as well as $175M to block fentanyl at our border.
Two weeks down and eight to go. Each is a chance to fight and deliver for Suffolk County. 🇺🇸💪🫡

I recently secured $350,000 in federal funding to clean up a long-abandoned brownfield at 225 Pulaski Street in Riverhead, just two blocks from the LIRR station.
Vacant since 1995, the site has been held back for three decades by a leaking underground fuel tank contaminating the soil and preventing redevelopment.
This investment, secured through the FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bill, will remove the tank, remediate the property, return it to the tax rolls, and help clear the way for transit-oriented development and downtown revitalization.

American Jewish Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor the rich history, culture, and enduring spirit of the Jewish people, a legacy woven into the fabric of our nation.
My 2023 visit to Israel deepened that appreciation. Walking ancient sites and seeing firsthand the resilience of a people who have preserved their identity across millennia is something that stays with you.
Wishing a meaningful month to the Jewish community on Long Island and across our country 🇺🇸🇮🇱

Congratulations to the United States Naval Academy’s Landon Robinson and Eli Heidenreich.
For the first time since 1956 and just the second time in program history, two Midshipmen were selected in the same NFL Draft, an incredible achievement that reflects the excellence and discipline instilled at the Academy.
Their success brings tremendous pride to the Brigade and the entire alumni community, and it has also sparked an important conversation about whether Midshipmen should be eligible for NIL opportunities while at the Academy.
Regardless of where that debate lands, one thing is clear: the alumni community could not be prouder of these two young men.

Today, I voted to pass H.R. 7567 — the bipartisan Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, aka “the farm bill.”
The bill expands credit access for producers, modernizes rural development, and protects American farmland from foreign ownership.
One amendment I voted against: a ban on SNAP recipients buying sugary soda.
Should some of us drink less of it? Probably.
Should Washington make that decision for you? Nope— families can make their own decisions.

Great meeting with members of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, and after talking with them, I’m feeling like things are moving up.
As a pro-labor Republican, I’m proud to cosponsor the Faster Labor Contracts Act and co-lead the Know Your Labor Rights Act, because Suffolk County’s working families deserve fair wages, safe working conditions, and the opportunity to retire with dignity.

@YankeeInsurgent I will always serve those who have served.

@RepLaLota Rarely do I see a Republican doing something good, but this is very appreciated! Thank you Congressman, will be following this!

Nearly 1 in 5 of our nation’s Veterans are Catholic. And while atheists, humanists, and nearly 100 other belief systems can choose their symbol on a VA cemetery headstone, Catholics still cannot choose a crucifix as their emblem of belief.
That is why I am advocating that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs add the crucifix as an eligible emblem at our national cemeteries. Their faith deserves to be represented, and I will keep fighting until it is.

The overwhelming majority of Americans, liberal, conservative, and independent, agree that government should cooperate with federal immigration officials to apprehend and deport violent criminal illegal immigrants.
Yet under liberal Democrats like Attorney General Letitia James, New York State released nearly 7,000 known criminal illegal migrants without notifying ICE, shielding them under sanctuary policies.

The US-UK partnership is strongest when both nations are aligned in deterring threats and, when necessary, confronting those who challenge Western civilization.
King Charles III’s commitment to increased UK defense spending is encouraging for our shared security and a clear signal to those intent on doing us harm.

Under four years of Biden’s open-border policies, with Congressional Democrats looking the other way, more than 15 million unvetted individuals entered our country without proper background checks, in what amounts to a one-party-facilitated invasion.
I swore an oath to defend this country. That oath doesn’t stop at the border.

I still get a special feeling when I step back onto the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy, where I raised my right hand and took my first oath in 1996.
Yesterday, ahead of votes in DC, I returned to Annapolis with a bipartisan delegation to review the Academy’s infrastructure needs.
I also had the chance to catch up with Midshipmen from Suffolk County, reconnect with a classmate, and even stop by my old room, a true full circle moment at a place that helped shape my life of service.

Political satire has a long and important place in American democracy — Presidents have been roasted by late-night hosts since the days of Carson, and a healthy republic can take a joke.
So can the President. So can the First Lady.
But there is a clear and undeniable line between political satire and rhetoric that suggests or alludes to deadly harm against a sitting President.
Even after multiple attempts on President Trump's life, Jimmy Kimmel chose to cross it.
Telling the country the First Lady has "the glow of an expectant widow" isn't comedy.
After Steve Scalise was shot on a baseball field, after Gabby Giffords was nearly killed meeting her constituents, after gunfire forced the evacuation of the WHCD just days ago — we should all know better.
This isn't a Republican issue or a Democrat issue.
It's an American issue.
If we only call out dangerous rhetoric when it's aimed at our side, we're feeding the very climate that puts every public servant and their family at risk.
We can disagree without wishing each other dead. That used to be the floor in this country.
It's time we got back to it.

Two generations of my family have worn the badge, my father for Nassau County, both of my grandfathers for the NYPD.
So today, my heart is heavy.
Sgt. Jonathan Diller was a husband, a father, and a son who gave his life in service to others.
His wife lost her partner. His little boy lost his dad.
The NYPD lost one of its finest. And every family with a loved one in blue felt that loss a little deeper.
To the Diller family: Long Island stands with you.
To every Officer who puts on the uniform: we see you, we honor you, and we will keep fighting for laws that match the gravity of your sacrifice.

Congratulations to Angelina Zhang of the Stony Brook School — winner of my 2025 Congressional App Challenge in New York's First District! 💪
Alongside her teammate Jason Lu, Angelina built Fulltray, an app that connects restaurants, grocery stores, and individuals with local food pantries to put surplus food to good use.
That kind of heart and commitment to her neighbors is part of what makes Long Island so special!
