There’s one misconception I want to clarify for those who haven’t noticed it yet. Flick still plays a very high defensive line, but he no longer relies on the offside trap as heavily as last season or at the start of this season. It’s been months since the heavy dependence on it decreased. We still attempt the trap when there’s a clear, good opportunity but the defenders are now tasked more with following the runners and making recoveries than stepping up together for the classic collective offside trap. If you go back and watch the chances or goals we’ve conceded in our recent games, you’ll clearly see the difference in how our defenders move and handle the runs. I thought everyone already knew about this, but I’m still seeing a lot of 'offside trap' criticism in the comments lately, so I wanted to clarify.

Sometimes it feels like a lot of fans treat transfer windows like it’s FIFA Career Mode. You see takes like “we sell these players for X amount and just reinvest it into this and that” but it’s nowhere near that simple. It’s not just transfer fees. You’re dealing with salaries, registration limits, signing bonuses, agent fees, loyalty bonuses, taxes,… all of that hits the club’s financial structure, not just the headline fee. And even if you simplify it to just fees, the idea that “we sell for 200M so we can spend 200M” doesn’t apply to us right now. Because we’re still not under the 1:1 rule, meaning we can’t freely reinvest everything we generate. Sadly until we get back to operating under the 1:1 rule, a big sale still doesn’t translate directly into equal spending power.
