@Kacey_Combs I wrote so many books at soccer practice and dance lessons and baseball practice and roller rink. Parent-,writers owe a huge debt to organized activities for kids.

So I’m sitting in my car at my son’s baseball practice yesterday - windows down, enjoying the sun, computer in my lap while I edit. I realize when this lady walks by eyeing me, that I’ve been acting out dialogue for several characters way too loud as I edit. Pretty sure the entire team thinks I’m bananas. 🤣

When Trump leaves office: The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department. The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center. The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico. The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom. Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired. The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president. Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference. The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies. The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists. Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it. The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters. U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators. And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

@Odel_diaries_8 No no no. 20,000 words lost by stupidity and working when too tired. I reverted to earlier saved versions of the files and am reconstructing. I will prevail but thank you for caring.

@AuthorTRobare I will add, don't depend on publisher PR. Announce this everywhere on social media. Ask your friends to repost and link. And ask the gathering. Hey, how did you know about this event? Take note of that answer. Good luck. Take extra pens and those bookmarks you printed yourself.

@AuthorTRobare It happens. If less than 5 people show up, you take every one out to coffee and pastries and have a great conversation at the table. Fun for all.

Good Grammar? Let's have fun. What's the phrase that most annoys you as a grammatical pedant (or average English speaker). Mine is 'I was stood, I was sat' etc instead of 'I was standing, I was sitting.' Also 'he gave it to myself' Argh - 'he gave it to me'. What's yours?

@NatalieO73314 Yes. If you took 50 writers and told them to retell Cinderella, you would get 50 very different tales. Write your book.

I’ve just discovered a book is due to be published this year that has the same premise/hook as one of my WIPs. It’s YA rather than adult and the themes, plot, setting, etc., are very different but idk. Is it even worth pursuing now? 🥺

In 1959, Texas journalist John Howard Griffin decided to test a claim often repeated in the segregated American South: that racial inequality was exaggerated. Rather than argue from a distance, Griffin chose a radical approach. With the help of a dermatologist and medication that darkened his skin, he disguised himself as a Black man and began traveling through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Carrying only a small suitcase and notebook, he lived for six weeks under the same laws, customs, and daily humiliations that Black Americans faced during segregation. What he experienced was immediate and stark. Griffin was denied service at restaurants, forced to use separate facilities, insulted in public, and constantly aware of the danger that surrounded him. Simple acts like trying to use a restroom, buy food, or find a place to sleep became difficult and sometimes frightening. At times he also encountered kindness and quiet solidarity from Black communities who assumed he was simply another man trying to survive the rigid system of segregation. Griffin recorded every interaction carefully in his journal. When he revealed the experiment and published his account in 1961, the book Black Like Me became an international bestseller and a powerful firsthand look at racial segregation in the United States. The reaction in his home state of Texas was far less welcoming. Griffin received threats and hostility so intense that he and his family temporarily relocated to Mexico for safety. His work remains one of the most unusual and controversial pieces of immersive journalism of the twentieth century, offering readers a rare inside perspective on life under segregation. #drthehistories

@JJWatt I tip because I can. My kids learned to count money by rolling my tip coins. That was our grocery money. At that time, state law was that I was paid less than minimum wage because it was expected tips would make up the difference.

Genuine question on a restaurant situation: You walk up to a counter to order. You find your own table and seat yourself. If you order coffee, they hand you a cup and you go fill it up yourself. If you order food, they hand you a buzzer and when it goes off, you go pick it up yourself. The iPad has a “20%, 25%, 30%, Other” tip option, with 20% already preselected. What’s your move?
