🇧🇪 Last week, The Duke of Edinburgh visited Belgium. During the visit, His Royal Highness met International Gold Award Students and discussed their experiences of participating in the Award. Later, he viewed the restoration of Hougoumont Gardens at the historic Waterloo Battlefield. The revival will reinstate the site’s orchard, vegetable plots and the French formal garden. At the battlefield, The Duke also visited the Waterloo Museum and paid tribute to the fallen with wreath-laying ceremonies at the British and French monuments. 🪴 There was also the opportunity to plant some ‘Tree of Peace’ seeds, descended from a tree that survived the atomic bomb in 1945.

Today is Windrush Day: a day to mark the contribution of the Caribbean men, women and children who arrived in Britain after the Second World War to help rebuild the country. In 2023, the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush to British shores, The King commissioned ten artists to create portraits of ten pioneering members of the Windrush Generation.
