The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) today concluded the 15th Proximity Commanders’ Meeting after three days of deliberations in Karagwe District, aimed at strengthening cross-border security and bilateral military cooperation. The meeting brought together commanders from the RDF 5th Infantry Division and the TPDF 202 Infantry Brigade, both deployed along the Rwanda–Tanzania border. Today, the Sector Commander of Sector South, Brigadier General Shishir Bharadwaj visited Rwandan peacekeepers ( RWANBATT-3), currently deployed under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Commanders from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) convened in Karagwe District for the 15th Proximity Commanders’ Security Meeting, aimed at addressing cross-border security challenges and strengthening bilateral cooperation. The three-day meeting, taking place from 24 to 26 March 2026, brings together the RDF 5th Infantry Division and the TPDF 202 Infantry Brigade, whose areas of responsibility lie along the shared border between Rwanda and Tanzania. The Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, today delivered a lecture on “history and security issues of the Great Lakes Region” to 60 Tour Guides from the Rwanda Safari Guides Association, one of the 7 Associations in the Rwanda Chamber of Tourism. The training, held in Gasabo District and organized in collaboration with the Rwanda Chamber of Tourism, focuses on enhancing participants’ understanding of the historical context and current security dynamics in Rwanda and the wider Great Lakes region. Today, 20 March 2026, a delegation led by the Hon. Minister of Defence, J. Marizamunda, comprising Brig Gen David Ngarambe Bukenya Chief J3, representing the CDS, attended the 42nd EAC Sectoral Council on Cooperation in Defence Affairs in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The meeting discussed matters related to EAC defence cooperation among partner states. Today Rwanda Defence Force hosted students from Harvard University

A delegation of 41 students from Harvard University, currently on a seven-day visit to Rwanda, today visited the RDF Headquarters. They were received by the Defence Spokesperson, Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff. Today, 489 trainees comprising senior officers, junior officers, and other ranks from the Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police, and Rwanda Correctional Service successfully completed four-and-a-half-month military career courses at the RDF Combat Training Centre in Gabiro. Today, the Rwanda Security Force (RSF), through its Civil–Military Cooperation (CIMIC) outreach in coordination with local leadership, donated scholastic materials to students of Buji Primary School in Mocímboa da Praia District. The donation of scholastic materials was intended to benefit 525 students at Buji Primary School. The Director of Buji Primary School, Mr. Iahaia Tomé, expressed his gratitude to the RSF for its continued support to the school and the Buji community. On behalf of the Mocímboa da Praia District authorities, the Director of Education, Mr. Salmo Bacary also extended his appreciation to the RSF for its ongoing effort to restore peace and security in the province, as well as for supporting the education sector.
