First, wow! Thank you for being with us since 2011! No need to worry. This was in reference to our new experience, Reserved. With Reserved, the goal is to identify an artist’s top fans and hold two tour tickets for them to buy so they don't have to race against thousands of other people or hunt for codes.
To find those fans, we look at a broad mix of signals, like saving and sharing, not just stream volume alone. We can't share the full formula or else it might be gamed, but it’s designed to spot active fan engagement vs. passive listening. We're trying to make sure true fans get rewarded instead of bots or people trying to game the system. And it definitely sounds like you're a true fan!

. @spotify Can you please elaborate on what Spotify means by “sleep streaming”?
Some of us use long playlists during the day while working, and also have specific playlists at night to sleep or relax. For example, I have an 8-hour “BTS to Relax” playlist with no repeats that I use because I have clinical PTSD.
I’ve been a paid Spotify Premium member since July 17, 2011, just days after Spotify launched in the U.S. on July 14. I was also part of the beta/testing period for about five months before the official U.S. launch through Klout/Kred, so technically I’ve used Spotify since February 2011.
Because of that, I’d appreciate clarity on how “sleep streaming” is being identified. How is Spotify distinguishing artificial streaming behavior from legitimate long-form listening by paid users who use playlists for work, sleep, relaxation, or health reasons?
It would be very concerning if longtime, legitimate Premium users were excluded from the new Reserved concert ticketing access because an algorithm misclassified their activity.
That would be a whole new level of messed up and shady.

@skinnydipbrina We’re looking at more signals besides streams like shares and other Spotify activity to help identify real fans (plus we can tell when someone is “sleep streaming” – and those users will be filtered out).

@tervisscoot Reserved is specifically designed with this in mind. Eligibility is based on multiple signals evaluated together, and we monitor for unusual behavior to ensure offers go to real human fans.

Great idea, but how are they gonna be able to filter sleep streamers and bots from snagging all the tickets from real fans
