As Torres himself later explained… “Kleinfeld was a phenomenon that I've observed at first hand where a guy, an attorney, he gets sucked into this environment, becomes immersed or roped in with these bad guys because they can be very fascinating and seductive almost. You see, the lifestyle, the women, the money - the cocaine as well. But then he violates the principle that Carlito espouses from an old Spanish aphorism. He would say, "Juntos pero no revueltos" which means together, but not mixed up. And that was Kleinfeld's downfall. He got mixed up. That's an offshoot of more than one instance of attorneys whom I have known who became involved with their clients. I know three that were killed personally."
