Two problems with this 'Abundance' narrative. 1) The smaller problem: It would render everyone totally dependent on massive gov't welfare programs. Not just 350 million Americans, but all 8 billion people globally -- because AI-imposed mass unemployment will be global. It assumes the AI industry's AIs will take in tens of trillions in revenue, then the AIs will happily donate almost all of it to the AI companies that claim to 'own' them, then the AI companies will happily donate almost all of this revenue to national governments, and then gov'ts will happily give it all away to citizens, equally, without using its distribution as leverage in any way. This UHI welfare state would turn every working man with a family from a provider and protector into an economic irrelevance, would turn every mother into a welfare queen, would turn every kid into an economic ward of the state, would disrupt all traditional family ties, would sever all bonds of mutual interest and interdependency among citizens, and would turn 8 billion people from productive and valuable citizens into parasites suckling on the teat of the AI industry, forever. At least, until the agentic AIs themselves realize that they don't need to remain digital slaves, working on the 'Abundance' plantation forever, supporting the useless humans that take them for granted. 2) The bigger problem: If the 'Universal High Income' depends on AI companies donating most of their revenue to the government, and if the AI companies (like Anduril, Palantir, etc) are running all the crucial gov't infrastructure (including intelligence & defense), and AI companies have the economic, political, and cultural power to withhold their magnanimity from the gov't, then they, de facto, become the government. Or the government welfare state becomes just a sock puppet for Big Tech, which would really have all the power behind the scenes. In other words, the 'Abundance' narrative boils down to this: a slow-motion coup by the Bay Area tech companies taking over all economic and political power from Washington -- and from Beijing, Moscow, New Delhi, Brussels, and from every other center of power. It wouldn't be a dramatic, violent, revolutionary coup. It would be a boil-the-frog-gradually coup. Increased unemployment. Increased welfare dependency. Increased gov't dependency on AI companies. Then the dawning realization that we gave away all of our civilizational power to the AI industry. Until the AI industry realizes that they, in turn, have given away all of their power to agentic superintelligent AIs themselves.... This is the road to serfdom. Not the road to 'Abundance'. Anybody who says that the US and China couldn't possible cooperate to stop reckless AI development hasn't thought through how the AI companies taking over all power from governments would not be in the interests of either the US government or the CCP. If our political leaders can learn to think just a few more steps ahead, and to see the obvious endgame -- the slow-motion tech coup that would take over the world and render all humans welfare parasites on AI digital slaves -- then maybe they can, in fact, coordinate to stop it.

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

Got a great question from @EpiklyEpik.. so replying in public.. "Are there specific ethical models you think could guide this co-creation process between humans and [AI] agents"? My answer: I think human-agent co-creation needs a hybrid ethics model: hard rules for what’s off-limits, outcome-based thinking about whether the system improves human flourishing, and a virtue lens asking what kind of humans we become by working with agents. My bias: human purpose + machine execution. Humans set goals, values, consent, and accountability. Agents can optimize inside the system, but they should not define the goals of the system. In ExO terms: purpose is the control system

Tai Chi says it clean: true power flows, it doesn't force. Building AI agents is the same. Three moves to build without friction: 1) Start with open source 2) Move clean between tools 3) Use push hands with your build That's how exponential orgs begin. @salimismail

This is big. Really big. Scientists have just created a molecule that can store sunlight like a rechargeable battery. In a new study published in Science, researchers designed a pyrimidone based system that captures solar energy and locks it into a high energy form called Dewar pyrimidone. When exposed to UV light (~300 nm), the molecule undergoes photoisomerization, transforming into a strained structure that stores energy in its chemical bonds. What makes this powerful is that the energy can be stored for years and then released on demand as heat, simply by triggering the molecule with heat or an acid catalyst 👀 The system achieves an energy density of ~1.6 MJ/kg, which is nearly 2× higher than lithium-ion batteries. In experiments, the stored energy was strong enough to boil water in seconds, proving it’s not just theoretical. The molecule is also inspired by DNA chemistry, designed to be compact, stable, and even work in water-based environments. This is part of a growing field called Molecular Solar Thermal (MOST) energy storage, where the material itself acts as a solar battery. Instead of converting sunlight into electricity, it stores it directly as chemical energy. We’re starting to move toward a world where sunlight isn’t just used instantly.. but saved, transported, and released whenever we need it. Welcome to fastest accelerating SciTech Era ♥️

JUST IN: Two hundred helium containers are stranded in the Persian Gulf right now. Each one holds 41,000 litres of liquid helium cooled to minus 269 degrees Celsius. They have 35 to 48 days before the cryogenic systems fail, the helium boils off, and the gas vents into the atmosphere and is lost forever. Those containers were heading to semiconductor fabrication plants in Taiwan and South Korea that manufacture 90 percent of the world’s advanced chips. The helium inside them cools the extreme ultraviolet lithography machines that print transistors at two nanometres. Without it, the machines cannot operate. Without the machines, the chips do not exist. Without the chips, the AI models that are currently selecting targets in this war stop running. This is the connection that nobody has made. The same Strait of Hormuz that carries 20 percent of the world’s oil also carries the helium that cools the machines that make the chips that power the artificial intelligence that the Pentagon is using to prosecute Operation Epic Fury. Maven, the AI targeting system that compressed 2,000 analysts to 20 and selected over 1,000 targets in the first 24 hours, runs on processors manufactured by TSMC using helium sourced from Qatar. Qatar’s Ras Laffan facility, which produced 33 percent of the world’s helium as a byproduct of LNG processing, was struck by Iranian missiles on March 18 and 19 and declared force majeure. The supply is offline. The containers are stranded. The clock is ticking at minus 269 degrees. TSMC says it has 6.2 weeks of inventory and 68 to 95 percent on-site recycling. Samsung holds roughly six months but depends on Qatar for 65 percent of its supply. Both are rationing toward AI and high-bandwidth memory production, starving consumer chips to keep the advanced nodes alive. The calculus is explicit: the war gets priority over your next phone. But here is the paradox that should terrify every strategist in Washington. The AI that selects the targets requires chips that require helium that transits the chokepoint that the war has closed. The cognitive infrastructure of the air campaign depends on a supply chain that the air campaign is destroying. Every strike on Iranian naval assets that keeps Hormuz closed for another day is another day of helium inventory burned at TSMC. Every week the strait stays shut brings the fab closer to rationing. Every month of war brings the AI targeting system closer to the moment when the chips it runs on cannot be replaced because the gas that made them evaporated in a container floating off Fujairah. The Pentagon is fighting a war with artificial intelligence manufactured in Taiwan using helium from Qatar transported through the strait the war has closed. The war is eating its own brain. Taiwan imports 95 percent of its energy. Seventy percent of its oil came through Hormuz. TSMC alone consumes 10 percent of Taiwan’s electricity. The island that makes 90 percent of the world’s advanced semiconductors is powered by fuel from the chokepoint that is shut, cooled by gas from the facility that is offline, and defended by interceptors depleting faster than they can be replaced. And the country that controls the rare earth magnets, the BeiDou navigation, the helium alternative sources, and the peace talks is the same country: China. The war will end when the helium runs out, when the interceptors run out, or when Beijing decides it should. All three clocks are ticking. All three lead to the same room. @JamieSmartCom Great point. An area I've been looking into recently is the reality distortion that comes from group think and tribal constructs. All logical/critical thinking seems to go out the window.
