Thank you to @doubjeopardypod for asking me to share (some of) my views on the impact, application and outcomes of pre-recorded cross examination in trials for sexual offences, and a short discussion of Huw Edwards' sentence.
Double Jeopardy - The Law and Politics Podcast@doubjeopardypod

In the latest episode @KenMacdonaldKC & @timowenkc are joined by @SarahvAtDSC to discuss the sensitive and difficult issue of the way in which trials of rape and other serious sexual offences are conducted as well as looking at the recent sentencing of #HuwEdwards.

@amnesty I took this photo at your offices in March 2020 without realising it was actually a statement of your definitive terms of reference.

Roxanne Tickle has won her discrimination case against the social media app 'Giggle for Girls', which blocked her from joining on the basis of being male. This is a step forward in ensuring transgender women are not discriminated against on the basis of their gender identity.

The problem is that it is true that many “progressives” have called everything under the Sun “far-right”. And have fuelled rightwing populism imo. True. But overuse of “far right” doesn’t mean that things that are far right aren’t far right. And a lot of this is clearly far right

Puberty blockers JR - a thread. The previous government brought in an emergency 3 month restriction on the prescription of puberty blocks to under 18s in the UK. This was challenged by judicial review. Mrs Justice Lang has just dismissed it. 1/10 judiciary.uk/wp-content/upl…

I have lodged a claim at the employment tribunal against my former employer, Hachette, on the grounds of sex and belief discrimination - full story below. I need to raise money towards legal fees. If you can share and/or donate, that would be brilliant💜 crowdjustice.com/case/hounded-o…

I had the great pleasure of sitting down with the fantastic @SarahvAtDSC again, this time to discuss the law relating to sex by deception: when someone induces another to have sex under false pretences or where they lie about or misrepresent something important to consent

Many of us in the criminal justice system will have greeted this with a combination of relief and nervous optimism. Putting prisons in the charge of someone who wants to take an evidence-based approach is a great first step to improving the long-term protection of the public.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy@krishgm

Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).

@CAAGed @michaelpforan Do have a listen if you can, Claire. Legally it's a real quagmire. Some deceptions will completely vitiate consent, some deceptions are *capable* of doing so and others are legally immaterial, no matter how important to a complainant.
