Good luck to everyone running the #LondonMarathon today! Perhaps you’re wearing a smartwatch today to keep track of your stats. But wearable tech isn’t just a 21st century thing: this pedometer is the 18th-century gent’s smartwatch. It was designed to be hooked over a belt or waistband and would count the number of steps taken by its wearer to estimate distances walked.  These pedometers had a practical purpose: for example, a landowner could quickly determine the size of their estate by walking. But they were also fashionable accessories at a time when people were keen to try new entertaining devices. This one is on display in Science City 1550-1800: The Linbury Gallery at the Science Museum, where you can also see an advertisement by the maker, Spencer and Perkins. They provided very detailed instructions, suggesting people might have struggled to get accurate readings, fortunately an issue we don’t have today! 📷 Pedometer or waywiser with fob hook, made by Spencer & Perkins, 1775-1794; The Improved Pedometer or Waywiser London Marathon | Science Museum London

#AnimalCrossing turns 25 today! 🎉 It all began in 1986 when a young designer left home to move to Kyoto and work for Nintendo. His feeling of loneliness sparked an idea: what if a game could help people feel connected, no matter the distance? That idea became Animal Crossing. 25 years later and many different versions of the game, one thing remained the same - a world built on friendship, kindness and community and a reminder that no matter how far apart we are, we’re never really alone. Best way to celebrate? Visit Power Up – book your tickets now: bit.ly/424ZW7s #AnimalCrossing #25thAnniversary #GamingExperience
