A look back at a powerful day. ALONE launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2029, bringing together voices from across communities, Government and the sector to focus on what really matters for older people. Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support this work 🤝

By 2050, 1 in 4 people will be over 65. Our new Strategic Plan responds to the real challenges older people face — poverty, loneliness and barriers to support — with a clear ambition: to build a system that puts older people first.

Concern is growing over rising energy costs, and the human impact is real. We encourage people to listen back to the recent RTÉ Radio discussion on this issue with David McCullagh, Ellen Coyne, Sean Moynihan and Ger Hyland. rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…

Housing is central to dignity, independence and wellbeing in later life. Ireland must urgently plan for the housing needs of an ageing population or risk a homelessness crisis. Affordable, and supported housing solutions are needed now.

We’re asking everyone to look out for older and more vulnerable members of their community. A quick check-in can make all the difference. Keeping homes warm is vital, especially for people with underlying health conditions that can worsen in cold weather.

On cold weather: Heating is a public health issue, you must keep warm, layers, turn on the heating. Reach out to family, friends and older people in the community to check up on them and make sure they're ok but most importantly to spend time with them.

This year ALONE will have supported over 46,000 older people across its services by the end of the year – the highest number to date. That points to an enormous and growing level of need, especially with our rapidly ageing population.
