(1/8) My latest study is out in @Nature ! Kudos to coauthors especially @jess_cardin and to @KavliAtYale and @WuTsaiYale for support. We find that gamma power in mouse visual cortex is caused by brief events supporting visual processing #Ack1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nature.com/articles/s4158…

New preprint from @HanganuOpatzLab! We present iSTTC, a robust method for estimating intrinsic neural timescales (ITs) from single-unit activity. It’s accurate, stable, and works even when data is sparse. doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…

Excited to uncover the mechanistic basis of feedback-driven computations in the cortex, inspired by connectomic and functional data supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant #ERCCoG. Thank you for the support @ERC_Research

Ever wanted to explore the driving forces underlying inhibitory neuronal signalling? We did! So, for my MSc in @JosephRaimondo lab, we developed the all-optical approach ORCHID - all-Optical Reporting of CHloride Ion Driving force. Now out in @NatureComms nature.com/articles/s4146…

It is out! Huge shoutout to Helene, very talented MD student. Many thanks to our collaborators from @IPB_Halle. We developed a simple assay to screen for a natural substance preventing the astrocytic uptake of amyloid to avoid neurotoxic signaling. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Does large-scale neural MEG activity correlate with micro-scale circuit properties? Our new work shows that aperiodic background activity indexes neural hyperexcitability in patients suffering from generalized epilepsy in @SfNJournals: eneuro.org/content/11/9/E… (1/4)

Where in the brain is abstract map generated? It is the lateral entorhinal cortex (LEC) and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), working together!! Here is our new finding published in @Nature Prefrontal and lateral entorhinal neurons co-dependently learn item–outcome rules Heechul Jun†, Jason Y. Lee†, Nicholas R. Bleza, Ayana Ichii, Jordan D. Donohue & Kei M. Igarashi* Nature (2024) nature.com/articles/s4158… When you learn new items, your learned knowledge is sorted into an “internal map” of the brain. An internal map, also called as an “abstract map”, is made of population activity of many neurons. In this new work led by Heechul Jun @jun_heechul and Jason Lee @jasonyensunlee, we found that the LEC deep layers and mPFC co-dependently generate abstract map during learning. These two areas had bidiretional anatomical connections, making a loop circuit. Inhibition of the LEC disrupted the abstract map in the mPFC, and mPFC inhibition deleted LEC abstract map. Our message is: LEC and mPFC are best friends! @AnatomyNeurobio @UCIMedSchool @uci_bme @UCIEngineering @UCI_NeurCircuit @ucicnlm @ucimind @UCIrvineNews @UCIrvine

How can memories persist in the brain when their properties and supporting biological substrates change over time and experiences? Our latest work newly published in @ScienceMagazine proposes that a balance between memory dynamics and persistence is achieved through the divergent recruitment of multiple memory traces established in parallel upon memory encoding. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Welcome to the Multiverse of Memory!
