True in 1853. True in 2025. Women speaking plainly in public still gets treated as the most dangerous thing we can do.
Lily Craven@TheAttagirls

@SeeRedWoman1 "No advanced step taken by women has been so bitterly contested as that of speaking in public. For nothing which they have attempted, not even to secure the suffrage, have they been so abused, condemned and antagonised." Susan B. Anthony, 1853.

@owenjonesjourno @EHRC Owen, men’s incessant, ubiquitous violence against women & girls results in 3 murders a week in the UK alone. So no, we won’t share our few places of refuge -which allow us to take part in public life – with trans-ID men, which means any man who’ll say the words “I’m a woman”…

When I worked for Teletext, I remember getting the Piccadilly line home and it got stuck between stations for an hour. No air, none of the wee windows, just minging sweaty heat. Everyone had big red faces. Today felt hotter than that.

@SeeRedWoman1 I've had panic attacks when trains have stopped between stations so I avoid most of the time. Walk or bus.

Kat "I'll bring the sausage rolls"
Oxford University has done a study into gender wang and forcing gynaecologists to lie about sex. My favourite bit:

Chocolatey - Purple-haired c*nt
Over the weekend I've been told by 3 different men that they're glad I had a miscarriage, with varying degrees of anger & frothing at the mouth, been told my another man I have cobwebs in my fanny & been told to kms 4 times. Because I don't want any men in women's facilities. It really is a mystery that they're not welcome.

@HowardPidge @randomgirl_411 Hah I was Muswell Hill and before that, Highgate. I will - I’ll do it tomorrow. My Arsenal celebrations yesterday at the pub have left me a right heap today. I wonder if Jeff Scott rings a bell - he managed our team

@SeeRedWoman1 @randomgirl_411 I can’t recall a Rob – two other names come to mind on the Teletext side – but drop me a message if you want to compare notes and reminisce! I also lived not too far from Bounds Green tube …

Watching some men and women turn on JK Rowling for not being “pure” enough… this is how movements start to eat themselves imo When someone becomes a proxy, they stop being treated like a person and start being treated like a standard. Every nuance gets read as betrayal. “Didn’t hold the line” really just means “she didn’t say exactly what I would have said, in exactly the way I wanted.” There’s a tightening that happens in spaces like this under pressure. The line of what counts as acceptable gets narrower, and suddenly yesterday’s ally isn’t quite good enough. It seems like policing and enforcement. I recognise this dynamic from my own experience of being on the receiving end of cancellation. The pressure to speak in the “correct” way, the rapid reassessment of who is in or out, and how quickly nuance disappears when someone becomes a target. If we’re serious about women’s rights, turning on people who’ve taken real risks because they’re not perfectly aligned is a strange way to go about it. No one has to agree with everything JKR, or anyone else, says. But expecting total ideological purity from anyone is its own kind of control.

@SeeRedWoman1 @randomgirl_411 I worked in IT at the Press Association. We used to do all your sports and elections pages, and used to get jittery when it was ‘Farm Lane’ on the phone 🤣 That was all a very long time ago now …

Eight grand on Lion bars? A bust of Lenny Kravitz? Sixty pairs of cashmere leg warmers in plum? The list of things I’m making up is ridiculous.
