A police officer stopped a young man's car and, upon checking it, realized that his driving license had expired. The police officer asked him why he was driving with an expired license. He answered: «They just fired me from my job, and the money I have is only enough for me to eat, pay rent, and my bills. I am from another state and I have come here to study at university. Plus, I have a job interview». The police officer had the option of applying the law and prohibiting the young man from driving his car, but he decided to listen to his heart. He parked his police vehicle, helped him tie his tie, got into the young man's car and accompanied him to the interview location. They entered together. The #police officer apologized and explained the reason for the young man's delay. They hired him! The young man got the job and obtained a temporary driving license until he raised enough money to renew his license. That's humanity!

But here is what got me most. Through all of it, he was already on to the next thing. Talking about Africa. Talking about legacy. Talking about hiring the best and still studying every layer of the work himself. And his memory. The man forgets nothing. Not the small things. Not the quiet acts of kindness. Later that evening, Time named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world. Nobody was having a better week. And he carried all of it like it was just another Tuesday. As Nigerians we move fast, we dream big, we normalise the extraordinary. But the rest of the world stops and stares. That day I watched them stare and I felt something I could not put into words.

The room did not just react. It erupted. I was standing there behind my lens and I could not believe what I was watching. I remember thinking recently, next time KSA sees him, it will be Seriki Oil. That same light came alive in me last week when he walked into World Bank President Ajay Banga’s office, then the IFC with its MD Makhtar Diop, and then got announced as the surprise keynote for Water Forward.

When (Rhapstar) posted the viral video on 4 April 2026, alleging misconduct by officers from the Satellite Town Division, Lagos, we took the matter seriously and acted immediately. The DPO and the officers involved were summoned, statements were obtained, and detailed interviews were conducted. Preliminary findings indicate the incident occurred in May 2025. We are working to obtain additional details directly from the victims, as their accounts are central to the investigation. This process is not a cover-up; it is a demonstration of accountability. The Leadership of the Force management team, has emphasized that the rule of law is non-negotiable in the discharge of police duties nationwide. No officer is above accountability, and no incident is too old to investigate. The investigation is ongoing. We will provide regular updates.
