Here’s a story of how we made our members over $210,000 in profit in about an hour’s time. 700 pairs x $300.00 profit = $210,000 Date: August 26, 2024 Product: Reebok x Alien BB 4000 II Mid Retail: $170.00 Resale: $500.00+ (For the first few weeks) This story actually begins back in 2016, when there was a lot more hype for these one off products than there is today. Today, the herd mentality is off the charts. Most prefer to wear what’s hype (which is generally what everyone else wears) even though they don’t particularly like the product itself. This is a direct effect of the pandemic of 2020, but it’s another conversation that we’ll have another time. What’s important is, this problem is fixing itself. The world is healing, slowly. People are slowly beginning to appreciate creativity and individuality again. Back to the conversation at hand. In 2016, the Reebok x Alien Stomper High released. They were limited to 426 pairs, and were a tribute to the original pair that Ripley wore in the 1986 hit Aliens. Sneaker Twitter, movie Twitter, and the internet in general at the time was going absolutely bananas over the release. I was a cooker back then and was able to purchase a pair. Sold it on eBay right away. Made a healthy profit on the single pair. Bought myself a Supreme Box Logo and a Shark Hoodie with the proceeds. Moving forward to 2024, a whole 8 years later.. We’re at another Reebok x Alien release. Our team had a meeting internally about this release and whether or not we should buy it. I initially flagged the release as a buy 6 weeks before the scheduled release date because I knew from the 2016 release that there’s a lot of sentiment for Reebok x Alien products. I also love the series. Our team landed on the decision to buy the BB 4000’s. Now it was time to get prepared for the release. It was a regular Monday at ShoePlex. We had a few White Thunder Jordan 4 restocks on DTLR, Shoe Palace and Hibbett Sports. We cooked them all of course. While cooking these restocks, I began to prepare for the Reebok release. It was scheduled for 11:59 PM EST that day. First thing I did was check out the Reebok site. Step 1 was to find if I could check inventory. I was able to. Only thing required was retrieving the variants for every size. Which I did. It’s pretty straight forward. I saw inventory was only about 450 pairs for the initial release, which only increased my confidence for high resale prices. Then I thought.. If checking inventory is this easy, maybe I could check out early. Little did I know, with the Network tab in your browser, checking out early is just as easy as checking inventory. Product was added to cart, and I was able to enter checkout. I didn’t check out though. I knew that there were only 450 pairs releasing and figured I’d rather let a ShoePlex member cook that pair.
