This was my expectation going into the game when they threw the piggyback term around Thought Miller would be on a serious pitch count and that we would see Castillo in maybe the fourth or fifth inning. You get to the seventh with a one run lead, you think about winning a game

@Softykjr I get all of that, but this team operates with a plan every game, often to their own detriment. Why would we think they’d deviate from that today? There’s zero expectation of that.

I'm already getting sick and effing tired of the word piggyback. I mean honestly, what the hell does that even mean? If it means Miller and Castillo swap starting/reliever roles I'm fine with it. At some point, they will have to get a guy out there every five days but you can spend the next week or so trying to figure that out . But unless somebody is on a serious pitch count, the guy in the bullpen is treated like any other reliever. There's literally no other reliever on this team that would be brought in with a one run lead in the seventh and told the rest of the game is theirs. Not one. Clearly Castillo was asked to try and do that tonight. And it cost them the game

Bryce going 6+ and a 1 run lead changes that. Castillo would be a unique reliever and that he can give you additional work but in no way shape or form should he have been asked to ever start the ninth inning. Not with Munoz sitting on 10 pitches in days. You got what you wanted out of him and then you asked him to do more and it burned you.

@Softykjr I don’t think Castillo was asked to complete the game from the 7th on, but I do think the expectation was that they’d see how long he could go and that meant starting off the 9th with Muni ready in case of emergency.

@Softykjr @MarinerMuse Because Castillo was only at 50ish pitches and they wanted to get him work…I’m not agreeing with it but that’s the logic

If Munoz was available to pitch then why didn't he start the ninth? What exactly are they gaining by allowing Castillo to try and close a game when he's never closed a game in his life? They have an All Star Caliber reliever who is paid to do that

Castillo got the K but that was a horrible look. Wilson has to know he can't pull Castillo after a previous mound visit by a coach.

Luis Castillo staying in to finish this one I'm certain that if this doesn't work, nobody will criticize Wilson and everybody will understand.
