Last week, @solmamakwa and I pressed the Ford government on why Ontario taxpayers will have to foot the bill for the legal fallout of their unconstitutional Bill 5. Ontarians shouldn’t pay for this government’s mistakes. #onpoli

Last week, the Minister of Indigenous Affairs presented his Ministry’s Estimates, and I had the chance to ask questions about their spending. I asked about Bill 5 consultation costs and how much Ontario spends fighting lawsuits from First Nations. This was his answer.

@fordnation remarks are offensive, rooted in racism & colonial violence. We are coming from generations of unresolved treaty rights, stolen lands & broken promises. Our Nations have taken care of ourselves long before your govt existed. You are the one begging for our resources.

Premier Doug Ford to First Nations: "There's going to a point where you can't just keep coming hat in hand all the time to the government. You gotta be able to take care of yourselves." Ford points to the gold mines and critical mines: "You're saying 'no, no, I don't want to touch that... by the way give me money.' Not going to happen," Ford says. #onpoli
