I would add that I and a lot of younger millennials I know harbor resentment toward the Lindy Wests of the world for the time and words wasted on petty individualistic grievance politics while we lost all right to control our own bodies. Jezebel fiddled while Roe burned.

One of my biggest focuses as a mom is to honor my son's full personhood, and to advocate on his behalf to the rest of the world that him being a child doesn't make him any less of an entire human, worthy of respect and attention.
Why would I then push my own personhood aside?

I'd go so far as to say this a bad example to set for kids, bc you're teaching them that showing love means constantly shelving your own needs, wants, interests, etc. My child is my top priority - but he also sometimes sees me pursuing my passions and fostering friendships.

My super strong parenting opinion is that while the kids are awake, you come last. No spending all of Saturday golfing. That’s family time. 6 am tee time only, maybe. Wanna go to the gym? Go after the kids go to bed, or wake up at 5. In a few short years, they’ll be out of the house and you’ll have all the time in the world for your own stuff. It’s okay to come last for a while.
