i wrote an asian american rom-com feature that made the annual black list brought on a director with indie and studio experience and attached a producer who directed the most successful rom-com in the last decade and every studio we went to said no thanks

@allwhw @DannyDrinksWine Henry still glorified and missed his friends in the old the life while settling into his new life as a schnook. There's a defiance in accepting traditional structure. Even if it's forced on you. Sublime storytelling.

@stevenmartini @DannyDrinksWine i agree. but i think that shows that even the most important rules can be broken and still work. plus, i still works because Henry doesn't even outright tell you he stopped caring for his friends at the end.

@stevenmartini @DannyDrinksWine i honestly think this scene works so well because of 2 things. 1. the movie is already narration heavy. 2. this is a courtroom where he ratted on his friends. the location is appropriate for him to confess to the audience that all he cared for was the luxury; not his friends.

7 years ago I wrote a 216-page miniseries that never got made. Last week I sent my favorite scene to a YouTube channel looking for writers on the same subject. Now I’m writing a 10–15 minute short for them. Nothing is wasted. The work finds it's way back.
