The DESIGN.md upgrade is officially live in Stitch! 🚀 Yesterday we open-sourced the spec, and today we are giving you more tools to use it: 📄 Start with DESIGN.md: Attach a DESIGN.md right at the start of a project. Don't have one? Our new wizard will help you extract one from your code base or the web. 🔄 DESIGN.md to Design System: Upload a DESIGN.md file to generate a Design System on the canvas. 🧩 Token Support: Design Systems now support design tokens from DESIGN.md! Add them to your file and Stitch will seamlessly incorporate them. 🗑️ Clean Up: (You asked, we listened) You can now easily delete a design system. We’re excited to build the open design standard together. 👇

We’ve also given DESIGN.md some new exciting capabilities: ✨ Tokens Section: A new area that keeps your design tokens and natural language descriptions living together in the exact same file. 🧩 Components Section (WIP): We are experimenting with a new section to define components, and we want your feedback! 🛠️ CLI Validator: The repo includes a CLI tool to validate your design.md file against the spec—incredibly useful when building with your own agents.

Today, we’re open-sourcing the draft specification for DESIGN.md, so it can be used across any tool or platform. We’re also adding new capabilities. DESIGN.md lets you easily export and import your design rules from project to project. Instead of guessing intent, agents know exactly what a color is for and can even validate their choices against WCAG accessibility rules. Two highly requested features just landed in Stitch! You can now generate custom images like logos right on the canvas and copy screens across projects. ✨ Native Image Generation: Create custom logos or hero graphics, and ask the agent to drop them directly into your UI. ✨ Copy & Paste Across Projects: Grab that perfect screen you made last week and paste it into a new project. We wanted to thank everyone again for the amazing response to the new Stitch! 🫶 Since launch, we've been listening closely to your feedback and working hard to make your vibe design partner even better. 🛠️ Here is an update on some of the top papercuts we just fixed: ✨ Smarter Design Systems: The agent now respects your existing design system instead of recreating a new one ✨ DESIGN.md Syncing: Editing your design rules manually now syncs back with the agent ✨ Cleaner Canvas Layouts: We’re working on a better layout model to reduce overlapping and intermingling ✨ Direct Edits: We smoothed out the clicking behavior so making direct edits on the canvas is much more intuitive ✨ Project Naming: Fixed the issue where your project would get stuck displaying the default "New Project" name ✨ UI Polish: Updated the "View Code" window, Settings, and Privacy pages to match the new Stitch aesthetic More to come. We also launched a new prompt enhancer (located under ‘+’ menu) to help you quickly collaborate on your vision before you submit your first prompt. Stitch doesn't replace the design process—it is a tool for fast exploration and refinement, which is most effective when you step into the role of Creative Director. Here are David's top strategies for taking your designs from generic to amazing: 🧠 Start with Intent: Define exactly who the design is for and how you want them to feel before you start building. 🎨 Enhance your prompt: You can use the new prompt enhancer (under the ‘+’ button’) to teach you design language and swap abstract words like "sporty" for tangible aesthetic descriptions like "high-end stationery" or "architectural limestone". 📐 Master Color Hierarchy: Treat colors as visual weight—Neutral for the canvas, Primary for ink, and Tertiary for your loudest accents.
