To all of this talk of Canada as the 51st state, I respond with Greg Curnoe's iconic series of paintings of America, where he created maps of North America that eliminate the United States and stitch Canada together with Mexico. Sadly more relevant now than ever. #ldnont

Re-reading Richard Rorty's Massey Lectures (1997), Achieving Our Country, I was struck by how accurate his predictions were for the future of the Left & the rise of Right-wing populism, 27 years before today's #ElectionDay in the US. (I've struck 2 words on the second image).

The Walz-Vance debate really exposes just how much is at stake in the Republican war on "experts." Their populism is rooted in a profound and unsettling distrust of institutions and expertise. #VPDebate2024

Anyone in London, Ontario with a view to the north should check out the stunning summer lightning hovering in an isolated part of the sky over the city. This is a view beside University Hospital at #WesternU. It's mesmerizing to watch right now. #LdnOnt #onstorm

Shortly after Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize in 2013, a group of arts organizers & creative professionals in London gathered to discuss the possibility of starting a region-wide literary and creative arts festival. Without #AliceMunro, we wouldn't have our festival in #LdnOnt.
