💛 This Love Your Liver Month, we’re celebrating the lives saved by King’s Liver Transplant Unit – a world-class service and home to the largest liver transplantation programme in Europe. Love Your Liver Month, which takes place each January, aims to raise awareness about liver health and the steps people can take to keep this vital organ healthy. This week, we’re shining a light on Simon. After becoming critically ill with liver failure, a transplant at King’s saved his life – without it, he wouldn’t be here today Now, Simon is making the most of his second chance. He’s competed in World Transplant Games around the globe, meeting fellow transplantees and celebrating the power of organ donation. 👉 Read Simon’s inspiring story here: bit.ly/45IthH8 #KingsSavesLives #LoveYourLiverMonth

Run for someone you love ❤️ Last year, Georgia, a devoted member of the King’s College Hospital Charity team, ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of her beloved adopted mum and best friend Isabelle, who knew firsthand the difference that charities like King’s can make. “Wonderful Isabelle was so proud of me for working for the Charity and making a difference for patients at King’s. “Having been diagnosed with breast cancer, and spending hours in chemotherapy units, her spirits were greatly lifted by the artwork, plants, cancer support groups, ward refurbishments, and other nice comforts that charities like King’s provide. “She would’ve been so proud of me for running the London Landmarks Half Marathon, and I would encourage anyone else to sign up. In a time of grief, it felt wonderful to have so much fun, feel so alive and show Isabelle just how much I love her.” 💛🩷 Run to bring comfort to patients in times of difficulty. Run for care. Run for King’s. 👉Sign up today: bit.ly/4oPeKAb #LondonLandmarksHalfMarathon #KingsCollegeHospitalCharity

When Hannah woke up one day in February 2023, she thought she just had a chest infection. But within hours, she couldn’t breathe. Diagnosed with severe pneumonia, she was placed in an induced coma and transferred to King’s Critical Care Unit, where doctors performed emergency open-heart surgery to save her life. “Without King’s, I wouldn’t be here.” Now rebuilding her life, Hannah believes access to fresh air and natural light can make a huge difference to recovery. This winter, King’s is opening a world-first Outdoor Critical Care Unit – a rooftop space where patients can heal surrounded by nature, light, and hope, all while safely supported by essential medical equipment. With your help, we can continue pioneering care that transforms lives like Hannah’s. 💛 Help hope take root at King’s this Christmas. After returning from a dream trip across the United States, Jackie never imagined that just a week later she’d be fighting for her life in King’s Critical Care Unit. Placed in an induced coma with respiratory failure, pneumonia, sepsis, and a blood clot, Jackie spent a month in intensive care. Thanks to King’s, she got the chance to begin again- and made it home for Christmas. “The care – well, what can I say? They saved my life. I’ll be forever thankful for that.” Now, Jackie calls herself “Jackie 2.0” – grateful, stronger, and embracing her new chance at life. This winter, King’s is leading the next step in patient recovery with a world-first Outdoor Critical Care Unit – a healing garden space surrounded by fresh air, nature, and light, where patients can remain fully connected to medical equipment they rely on. With your support, we can continue creating spaces that don’t just save lives – but help them begin again. 💛 Help new beginnings bloom at King’s this Christmas. As Matron on King’s Critical Care Unit, Nicola sees every day how small moments of hope can make a huge difference to patients fighting to recover. That’s why she believes the new world-first Outdoor Critical Care Unit will be life-changing – giving patients the chance to breathe fresh air, see the sky, and feel the world beyond the ward after weeks or even months indoors– all while remaining supported by the medical equipment they rely on. “The new outdoor unit for Critical Care patients at King’s will give us a lovely area to take our patients who have perhaps been inside for weeks, maybe months, to give them fresh air and a change of scenery,” says Nicola. “It will be much more accessible for all our patients, allowing them to spend more time outside – which can offer a turning point in recovery.” With your support, we can continue creating spaces that don’t just save lives – but help them begin again. 💛 Help new beginnings bloom at King’s this Christmas. We were proud to have attended and supported the Child & Baby Memorial Service at King’s held at the weekend. 💛 Each December the Chaplaincy team holds two memorial services at St Luke’s Chapel to remember babies and children who have sadly passed away at our hospitals. The services, which were very moving, featured a selection of readings, poems and music and everyone was welcome to write a memory or message to their loved one, which was hung on a beautiful, illuminated memory tree at the back of the chapel. We were honoured to provide funding for an organist to play music during the service, which gave an opportunity for quiet reflection as families lit candles for those they were remembering. These services provide an important opportunity for remembrance in the run-up to Christmas, which can be a challenging time for people experiencing grief.

Malcolm has been closely involved in creating the world-class Critical Care Centre at King’s. Now, he’s making history by leading the construction of something truly special – a world-first Outdoor Critical Care Unit, made possible by King’s College Hospital Charity. This innovative space will allow critically ill patients to experience the outdoors during recovery – to feel fresh air, see the sky, and connect with nature again during long stays in hospital. With specialist medical equipment built into each outdoor bay, the garden has been designed to meet the complex needs of critical patients and accelerate their recovery while lifting the spirits of them and their loved ones alike. With your support, we can continue creating spaces that don’t just save lives – but help them begin again. 💛 Help healing take root at King’s this Christmas.
