SPS remains actively engaged in extortion investigations, enforcement, and prevention efforts, and we encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Be aware, family emergency phone scams are on the rise. Scammers may pose as a loved one in urgent trouble, using fear and pressure to demand immediate payment. Protect yourself and your family:
• Never send money or gift cards
• Ask questions only the real person would know
• Set a family emergency code word
• Hang up and call a trusted family member using a number you know
