Today, we join the @African Union in celebrating #AfricaDay2026, marking the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963 and honoring Africa’s unity, resilience, and shared ambition for sustainable development. Sweden remains a committed, long-term partner to the African Union. Through close cooperation – both direct and through the Joint Financing Arrangement – we are working together to strengthen how the AU plans, delivers, and measures results. Throughout the week, we will highlight key areas of our cooperation across Africa, showcasing how partnerships translate into real, lasting impact. Yesterday, the Embassy joined the launch of the @UNFPAUganda managed #SAYPlus+ programme, led by the @MinofHealthUG and implemented by local authorities and civil society partners — with support from Sweden 🇸🇪, Denmark 🇩🇰, Iceland 🇮🇸 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱. The launch was youth‑led, centred on girls’ and boys’ right to choice and autonomy over their own bodies. H.E. Ambassador Maria Håkansson stressed Sweden’s commitment to ensuring that girls and boys can access appropriate Sexual and Reproductive Health services in safe settings and make their own decisions about future parenthood.
