Deputy Minister Ambassador Musa Kulaklıkaya met with Hamish Falconer, UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa; Edward Llewellyn, Political Director at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office; and Baroness Chapman, UK Minister of State for International Development and Africa, on the margins of the Global Partnerships Conference, in London. Bilateral relations and current international issues were discussed, during the meetings.

As part of political consultations, Deputy Minister and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay met with Remigijus Motuzas, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Seimas and Vytautas Grubliauskas, Chair of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Türkiye, in Vilnius.

President @RTErdogan spoke by phone with President Donald J. Trump of the United States. The leaders discussed the Türkiye-U.S. bilateral relations, as well as regional and global matters. Noting that he sees the prolongation of the ceasefire as a positive development amid the conflicts in our region, President Erdoğan expressed his belief that a reasonable solution is possible in controversial issues, and stated that we will maintain our support for constructive initiatives. Describing the entrenchment of a stable environment in Syria as a significant gain for our entire region, President Erdoğan stressed that Türkiye’s support for Syria will continue without any interruption, and that any deterioration in the situation in Lebanon should be prevented. Drawing attention to the ongoing preparations for the upcoming NATO Ankara Summit, President Erdoğan said that we take the utmost care to make sure the Summit unfolds successfully in every respect. Extending his condolences to U.S. President Trump over the heinous attack that was carried out the previous day against a mosque in San Diego, President Erdoğan added that Türkiye opposes such hate crimes no matter which religious group is targeted.

The call addressed the Türkiye-European Union relations as well as regional and global developments. President Erdoğan said Türkiye strives for the preservation of ceasefire and establishment of peace in the regional conflicts, and that the Hormuz should be immediately opened. President Erdoğan stated that Israel wants the conflicts in the region to continue, and maintains its international law violations, including piracy, and that it is crucial to increase international pressure on Israel. Stressing that the tensions occurring in the region have once again demonstrated the strategic importance of Türkiye-European Union relations at the call, during which the resolution of the problems of mutual concern was focussed on so as to strengthen the economic integration, President Erdoğan noted that Türkiye’s participation in Europe’s initiatives on security strategies would be beneficial, that the Customs Union should be updated, and that it is important to enhance the cooperation in every area.
