During a Cabinet meeting on May 27, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to all before threatening Oman that “we’ll have to blow them up” if they did not “behave just like everybody else.” The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil normally passes, has remained heavily regulated by Iran in response to U.S. and Israeli aggression.

Federal prosecutors in Las Vegas have dropped weapons charges against Ori Solomon, an Israeli national previously arrested after authorities uncovered an alleged illegal biological laboratory at a rental property in the city. According to local reports, Solomon, who was in the United States on a non-immigrant visa, had initially faced federal firearms charges after investigators searching the property reportedly found multiple weapons. Although the federal case has now been dismissed, Solomon still faces state charges in Nevada related to the improper disposal of hazardous waste. The investigation began in January 2026 when local and federal authorities raided a property near Washington Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard in Las Vegas. Investigators reportedly recovered suspected biological materials, laboratory equipment, influenza samples, vaccines, and other medical-related substances. Authorities said the operation raised concerns over possible biosafety violations and the handling of potentially hazardous materials outside regulated facilities. Reports also linked the property to activities extending into Los Angeles, though details about any additional sites have remained limited. The property was reportedly connected to Jia Bei Zhu, a Chinese national convicted in a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme involving the illegal sale of more than one million unauthorized medical test kits through a company based in Fresno. Authorities have not publicly alleged that Solomon was involved in Zhu’s fraud operation, but investigators continue examining links between the laboratory activities and broader public health and regulatory concerns. Solomon is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on June 4 to face the remaining hazardous waste charges.

US President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran remain divided on key issues in talks aimed at ending the war and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump rejected Iranian state television reports claiming a framework agreement had already been reached to reopen the strait and lift the US naval blockade, calling the terms unacceptable to Washington. The White House dismissed the report as “a complete fabrication,” while Trump warned that if negotiations fail, the US may “finish the job.” The negotiations are focused on control and security of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of global oil and LNG supplies flowed before the conflict disrupted traffic. Trump said no country would be allowed to control the waterway and indicated Oman would play a role in any future arrangement. Iranian official Ali Bagheri Kani said “nothing has been agreed” until all issues are resolved, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy claimed only 23 commercial vessels crossed the strait in the previous 24 hours, far below normal levels. Another major sticking point remains Iran’s nuclear programme. Iranian officials reportedly want nuclear negotiations delayed until later stages of talks, while the US insists Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon. Marco Rubio said there had been “some progress” but stressed Washington’s position had not changed. The conflict has already disrupted global energy markets and increased political pressure on Trump at home ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against University of California, Los Angeles, accusing the university of failing to protect Jewish students during pro-Pales-tine demonstrations linked to Israel’s war on Ga-za. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, alleges UCLA violated Title VI of federal civil rights law by allowing what the administration described as a hostile environment for Jewish students and faculty. The case centers on the large pro-Pales-tine encampment established on UCLA’s campus in April 2024 during nationwide student protests against Israel’s genocide in Ga-za. The Trump administration claims Jewish students were harassed and prevented from accessing parts of campus during the demonstrations. Supporters of the lawsuit argue universities have a legal obligation to prevent antisemitic discrimination, while critics say accusations of antisemitism are increasingly being used to suppress anti-Israel activism and opposition to continued US support for Israel. UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk rejected the allegations, saying the university had taken multiple measures to balance campus safety with free speech protections, including restructuring its civil rights office, appointing a Title VI officer, and strengthening anti-discrimination policies. The lawsuit comes amid a broader crackdown by the Trump administration on universities that hosted major Ga-za solidarity protests. The federal government has already frozen billions of dollars in university funding and revoked visas for hundreds of international students linked to pro-Pales-tine activism, while UCLA itself has suspended campus chapters of Students for Justice in Pales-tine and Graduate Students for Justice in Pales-tine following protests earlier this year.

Israeli authorities have moved to seize land surrounding the historic Nabi Samuel religious site in the occupied West Bank, a decision Pales-tinian officials and analysts say is part of a broader campaign to “Judaise” Pales-tinian religious and archaeological landmarks. Israel’s Civil Administration announced the expropriation of around 28 acres covering land from the Pales-tinian villages of Beit Iksa and Nabi Samuel, including the area where the centuries-old Nabi Samuel mosque stands. Authorities said the seizure was for the “public benefit” and aimed at preserving the archaeological site linked to the tomb of the Prophet Samuel. The site holds deep religious significance for Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Muslims believe the tomb of the Prophet Samuel lies within the mosque complex, whose present structures date back to the Ayyubid and Mamluk eras. Pales-tinian experts say the land belongs to the Alami family as an Islamic waqf endowment and accuse Israel of steadily expanding control over the area since occupying the West Bank in 1967. Israeli authorities previously converted parts of the underground tomb area into a synagogue, reduced Muslim prayer spaces, and declared the surrounding area a nature reserve in 1995 before beginning excavation works. Pales-tinian officials say excavations have uncovered Islamic artifacts rather than evidence supporting Israeli historical claims tied to the site. Analysts warn the move amounts to “effective annexation” and reflects a wider Israeli strategy of using archaeology and tourism projects to reshape Pales-tinian areas around Jerusalem. Similar policies have been carried out in places like Silwan, Ibrahimi Mosque, and Sebastia archaeological site. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich recently called for additional Pales-tinian-controlled heritage sites, including Solomon’s Pools, to be brought under Israeli authority. Pales-tinian officials say the policies are aimed at reducing Pales-tinian presence around Jerusalem while linking surrounding settlements into a single Israeli-controlled geographical belt.

Israeli strikes and artillery shelling intensified across southern Lebanon during Eid al-Adha, with attacks reported in Nabatiyeh, Tyre, Saida, and Deir Qanoun Ras al-Ain over the past day. Footage circulating online shows shelling near Nabatiyeh’s governmental hospital, while other videos captured explosions and destruction across multiple southern regions as civilians marked one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar. The escalation comes amid Israel’s intensified attacks across southern Lebanon, with Israeli forces issuing new evacuation threats and declaring large areas south of the Zahrani River a “combat zone.”

For the first time since the Great Depression era, the United States recorded more people leaving than arriving in 2025, with net migration falling by about 150,000 according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The estimation also shows that in 2025 alone, 5,000 Americans renounced their citizenship showing no plans of return. The number of people moving into the country dropped to between 2.6 million and 2.7 million, down sharply from nearly 6 million in 2023, while 6,75000 people were deported and another 2.2 million left voluntarily. Concerns cited include violence, high living costs, and political instability, with some linking the trend to Donald Trump’s re-election during his second term, a shift some commentators describe as the “Donald Dash.” Experts expect departures to rise further in 2026, as more Americans relocate abroad for affordability, education, and lifestyle opportunities, even as international student arrivals to the US decline and outward migration for study increases.

Every year, Eid al-Adha returns with the language of devotion, remembrance, and sacrifice. Yet the danger of ritual is that repetition can make even the most earthshaking truths feel familiar. What was once a trembling confrontation with God can become a custom; what was once surrender can harden into ceremony. The story of Abraham is recited, the animal is slaughtered, meat is distributed, and the moral drama appears complete. But it is not complete. The meaning of sacrifice in Islam does not end at the altar of symbol. It reaches its fullest historical expression in Karbala, where what was once asked as willingness was answered as action. tmj.news/from-abraham-t…

May 27, 2026, marks Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide and commemorating the end of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Footage shows worshippers in Karbala, Iraq, performing the Eid prayer between the shrines of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and his brother Abal-Fadhl al-Abbas. Eid al-Adha commemorates the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael), before his son was spared and replaced with a sheep. The themes of sacrifice and devotion are also deeply associated with Karbala, where Imam Hussain was martyred in his stand against injustice and tyranny.

Nearly 1.8 million Muslim pilgrims gathered at Mount Arafat in Makkah on Tuesday, marking the spiritual peak of the annual Hajj pilgrimage ahead of Eid ul Adha. Pilgrims performed combined midday and afternoon prayers at Namirah Mosque before heading to Muzdalifah after sunset to continue the sacred rituals overnight. This year’s Hajj comes amid rising tensions across West Asia following the US-Israeli war on Iran, alongside growing concerns over crackdowns, mass arrests, and human rights abuses targeting minorities and dissenters by Gulf regimes.

Amin Abdullah, a security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego, was among those k*lled during the attack at the mosque on May 18, 2026, by two teenage perpetrators. A recent Facebook post shared by Abdullah has since drawn attention online, in which he reflected on faith, success, and returning to God with a “pure soul.” The attack took place on May 18, 2026, after two white teenage perpetrators, Caleb Vasquez, 18, and Cain Clark, 17, opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego in what authorities are calling a hate crime. Three people, including Abdullah, were k*lled before the perpetrators were reportedly later found dead from self inflicted gunshot wounds.

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of the administration of US President Donald Trump in a dispute over whether federal immigration judges can publicly speak about immigration policy without prior government approval. In an unsigned unanimous decision, the court did not rule on whether the speech restrictions themselves are constitutional, but instead said a lower appeals court improperly relied on arguments not raised by the judges’ association. The case now returns to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for further proceedings, leaving open the possibility that the challenge could continue. The lawsuit was brought by the National Association of Immigration Judges against a policy first introduced during Trump’s first term in 2017 and later maintained under both the administrations of Former US President Joe Biden and Trump. The rules require immigration judges to seek approval before making public remarks connected to their official duties, including discussions of immigration policy or court operations. The judges argued the policy violates First Amendment free speech protections, while the administration insisted disputes involving federal workers must first go through internal administrative agencies established under the Civil Service Reform Act. The case also became tied to broader legal battles over Trump’s efforts to expand presidential control over independent federal agencies. The appeals court had questioned whether immigration judges could receive fair hearings after Trump removed officials overseeing agencies responsible for federal worker complaints. The Supreme Court rejected that reasoning for now, but major constitutional questions remain unresolved. The court is expected to issue several major immigration-related rulings by the end of June, including decisions on Trump’s attempt to restrict birthright citizenship and revoke temporary legal protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants from countries including Venezuela, Haiti, and Syria.

Former International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda says she faced intimidation and threats linked to her investigation into alleged Israeli war crimes in occupied Pales-tine. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Bensouda revealed that unidentified men visited her home in The Hague after she opened a preliminary ICC examination into Pales-tine in 2015, handing her an envelope containing $500 in what she believed was a warning that those behind the operation knew where she lived. She said Dutch authorities later traced phone numbers connected to the visitors back to Israel. Bensouda also accused former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen of personally pressuring her to abandon the Pales-tine investigation during a series of meetings, including one at a hotel in New York during the UN General Assembly. She confirmed earlier reports that Cohen warned her Israel could “take care” of her and implied her family’s safety could be at risk if the investigation continued. Bensouda described the encounters as beginning with attempts to “win her over” before escalating into what she interpreted as direct threats against both herself and her relatives. She further linked the pressure campaign to sanctions imposed on her by the administration of US President Donald Trump in 2020 after the ICC pursued investigations into alleged war crimes committed by US forces in Afghanistan and Israeli forces in Pales-tine. Bensouda said the sanctions froze banking access, disrupted salary payments, affected her mortgage, and even led to her son’s bank account in The Gambia being blocked. The sanctions were lifted in 2021 under Joe Biden, but Trump later revived ICC-related sanctions after returning to office. Bensouda warned that political pressure and intimidation campaigns threaten the future of international justice, urging the European Union to take stronger steps to protect the ICC from foreign sanctions and interference.

A new report by Human Rights Watch alleges that Colombian mercenaries fighting alongside Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were recruited and routed through Emirati-linked military facilities before being deployed into Sudan. The investigation says Abu Dhabi-based Global Security Services Group hired hundreds of Colombian contractors from 2024 onward to support the RSF in its war against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Human Rights Watch said the findings add to growing evidence that the United Arab Emirates has provided military support to the RSF, which has been accused by the UN and rights groups of genocide, mass rape, ethnic killings, and starvation campaigns in Darfur and other parts of Sudan. A separate report by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab earlier this year also backed allegations that the RSF carried out systematic attacks on civilians and farming communities around el-Fasher. Researchers say videos posted online in late 2024 first exposed the presence of Colombian fighters after an SAF-linked group intercepted a convoy entering Sudan from Libya. HRW researcher Joey Shea said some contractors moved through sensitive Emirati military facilities and that one contractor admitted helping train child soldiers as young as 13 or 14. The report also links the operation to earlier revelations that Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan oversaw the recruitment of Colombian ex-soldiers for the UAE military more than a decade ago. The UAE continues to deny supporting the RSF despite multiple investigations citing flight logs, satellite imagery, and weapons tracing data.
