Blackie, the dog who was hit by a car and will require a double back leg amputation, is still admitted at our clinic while we prepare him for surgery. Mini Bird, a senior dog we transferred from the temporary municipal shelter, came to us battling a blood parasite and anemia. The good news is that he has now completed his treatment and is feeling much better. He’s received his second round of vaccinations and is scheduled to be neutered soon. For now, he remains in our outdoor quarantine area, where all new arrivals stay until they are fully vaccinated and sterilized. We were alerted to a dog in need of help at a local market not far from our sanctuary. Her belly was massively swollen, a clear sign that something was very wrong and needed urgent attention. At our clinic, after x rays, ultrasounds, and blood tests, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure caused by heartworm, along with a blood parasite. The heart failure had caused a dangerous buildup of fluid in her abdomen, making it difficult for her to breathe and for her body to function properly. Our team drained 2400 ml of fluid from her abdomen to relieve the pressure. We will continue to monitor her closely, repeat the procedure as needed, and treat all of her underlying conditions. It is a very serious case, but now she has a chance. Dtang Dtang update: In February of last year, we were out catching stray dogs for spaying and neutering when we discovered a paralyzed dog dragging her back legs near a construction site. The workers told us she had been hit by a car weeks before. She had large, infected wounds on her legs from dragging them behind her. A dog was brought to our clinic by our friends at the municipality for emergency treatment. She was bleeding from her eye, most likely caused by TVT cancer. She was also severely anemic and had a high white blood cell count, indicating infection. We immediately started her on antibiotics while awaiting confirmation of her diagnosis and preparing a treatment plan. Today, Penne is cancer free, fully vaccinated, and spayed. She spent time in our outdoor quarantine unit, where she got along well with the other dogs. Now, Penne is thriving in Shelter 6, surrounded by many friends, and she truly enjoys her daily walks. We rescued Potter from an abusive household after we were sent a video of his abuse. He was locked in a crate while a woman was assaulting him with a stick, smashing him in his face and body. After confronting the abuser, we were able to bring Potter to safety. Today, Potter is thriving as part of our "Container Gang" - a shelter area next to our Care Unit. He's now well-socialized, has many canine friends, and enjoys long daily walks.
