From the rhetoric we get from the govt too many people are claiming social security benefits and it is liable to 'buckle', but this new report shows that £24.1 billion of support is going unclaimed, with 7 million households currently missing out. policyinpractice.co.uk/publication/mi…

🚨 New research from @TrussellTrust reveals something alarming: 3 in 4 people referred to Trussell food banks are disabled. It's a tough statistic to comprehend. But it's the tougher reality facing many disabled people in poverty.

Just think. This is a LABOUR government the UN feels compelled to issue this warning to. "Experts from the UN have urged the government to scrap upcoming changes to disability benefits, which they say risk breaching the UK’s human rights obligations" independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Tonight Parliament failed disabled people. 🥀 Labour voted down my amendment to scrap unfair bus pass restrictions. 🌳 The Conservatives whipped their MPs to abstain. 🚌 This isn’t good enough. I won’t stop until disabled people get the fair, accessible transport they deserve.

🚨 Hunger in the UK ISN’T about a lack of food. People are facing hunger because they don’t have enough money to survive. The basic rate of Universal Credit is just £92 a week, disability benefits are being cut, energy bills are going up and rents are sky high. It’s so wrong🧵

Did you know people with a learning disability don't live as long as they should? In Wales most people with a learning disability die around age 67. This is because they get worse healthcare than other people. Easy English @BBCWalesNews story available: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

We asked blind and partially sighted people about their walking journeys, and 92% said they have had to walk into the road due to street obstacles. This is unacceptable. We’re calling for inclusive street design and a UK-wide law against pavement parking.

The gov says it wants more Disabled people in work. Then why is it cutting Access to Work? Many people are reporting 60-80% cuts or total withdrawal of their support, with no explanation. We've signed @AccessToWorkCol's open letter, add your name too: buff.ly/ps4qtlh
