100% agree, and exacerbated by socio economic backgrounds. This is why we work with young people from rural and coastal areas - enabling them to access work experience, employability skills and professional networks. #socialmobility
COVID Social Mobility & Opportunities Study@CosmoStudy

The research takes a closer look at young people's perceptions of the opportunities they can access locally. In addition to differences between regions, we also found differences in perceptions of local opportunities for training and jobs between urban and rural areas.

Looking forward to tomorrow's Equity in Education book launch in London hosted by the brilliant @SocialMobilityF. Equity is about doing more for pupils who have faced extra barriers to learning, and working with them not doing things to them. Must move away from deficit approach!

How do we level that playing field of learning? Look no further than @Lem_Exeter’s book, which includes studies that show teachers may act differently towards children from working class backgrounds; showing less warmth, giving less eye contact & lower-quality feedback. 4/11

🚨 Only 7% of the UK population are educated privately, but nearly 40% of those in top jobs went to a private school. Our research shows how privately educated pupils are heavily overrepresented in top positions in the most competitive sectors ⤵️ buff.ly/37jnvuK

Interesting find @LSEImpactBlog showing that universities outside of the Russell Group institutions drive social mobility more. As shown, 40% of disadvantaged graduates from Russell Group universities become top earners. However, 54% of top earners were privately educated!
LSE Impact Blog@LSEImpactBlog

🗃️From the archive: Despite the focus on Russell Group institutions as drivers of social mobility, it is actually universities outside this group that are contributing most strongly to social mobility #HigherEd wp.me/p4m9em-bm0

@campbellclaret As a social mobility charity, with a mission to overcome the barriers of socio-economics, we welcome Starmer's move to raise the profile of oracy and their commitment to a broader curriculum. We all need to break down these barriers, to shape tomorrow. @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour

There is a lot in this speech. And I am delighted that a commitment to teaching of oracy in schools is included as part of Labour plans for education. A confident nation breeds confident kids and this is not a confident nation right now. theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
