@seconds_0 @MarysRoommate you want foreign vessels in our inland waterways?

An entire Treasury Department, an entire Council of Economic Advisers, and apparently not a single one of them has taken a basic economics class.

Minus the Islamic Republic, Iran today could be a fully developed OECD nation. Portugal vs Iran, GDP / capita, World Bank data.

Y'all are so scared of aging

I don’t understand. This stuff is real, it exists, you can actually buy it, and yet the VR market is almost dead. What happened to the kids in the 90s who dreamed about this possibility? Why do modern kids now go crazy for games where you don’t really do anything, where at most you just swipe up and down, or spend their time screaming in stupid games that require no concentration, like amoebas with no curiosity? This stuff finally f***ing exists, and yet the videogame market pretends it’s invisible. F***! F***! F***! In 1998, when we were 13 playing Resident Evil 2 on the PlayStation with my friends, we would have killed to be able to play something like this. I am tired of the talking point that Iraq was a failure. Iraq today is a stable country that doesn't brutalize its people or threaten its neighbors.

Good zoomer slang: "crashing out." It's just very evocative and intuitive. Bad zoomer slang: using "face card" to mean "face." This doesn't do anything! It doesn't help!

I remain deeply baffled by the backlash generated by this video. The very worst you can really say is that it's a bit irritating, and even that's a bit of a stretch, for a silly bit of fun less than twenty seconds long. Yet a non-trivial number of men react with deep, fiery rage.

Obviously this is bad faith but even in good faith these comparisons always irritate me. Superficially and theoretically, yes, there’s a choice between guns and butter. But in reality, that’s not the choice at all. The reason we haven’t fixed LA homeless has absolutely nothing to do with anything foreign-policy related. It’s a choice. We spend gazillions of dollars (much more than on our military) “at home”. The problem isn’t that we don’t spend enough on butter because we buy too many guys. It’s that our butter spending is retarded and counterproductive at best, actively pernicious at worst. There are a ton of programs that we pay for that are so damaging, I’d literally rather light the dollars on fire on the White House lawn.

Enshittification is most intense at the airport. Every crew is a skeleton crew. Digital systems are brittle. At every step you’re tagged with a fee. You’re the target of relentless advertising and surveillance. The surrounding are dirty. The food is garbage. The air is unclean.

ICE: “I love my job. I can't believe I get paid for this. I’d do this for free.” PROTESTER: “I get $200k. I’m a physician assistant.” ICE: “How long did you have to go to school?” PROTESTER: “7 Years” ICE: “I only went to high school and I make $200k.”
