Crunching a lot of numbers for today's NerdCast. Of teams considered to be Top 8 contenders, weekend series wins vs. Projected 1 seeds. 3 - Georgia, A&M, Auburn, Texas 2 - Alabama 1*- UCLA (SEC wins in Globe Life, too) 1 - GTech, UNC, Florida (plus 3 midweek wins over FSU), WVU 0 - Southern Miss, Florida State @NCAABaseball

@DudyNobleField Ur right on the “locks” Alabama is also likely a lock with their RPI and 18 wins in the SEC. The 8th team will be interesting

In no particular order *Locked* Georgia Georgia Tech UCLA North Carolina Texas Auburn Then two spots between these teams in order from most to least likely IMO Florida State Alabama Texas A&M USC (watch for the West Coast bone to be thrown right here) Florida may also sneak into the top 8 conversation with a deep SECT run

If we are keeping score, even as an MSU grad and in this industry for a living. Tanner, James, Smith and many more. UGA has same -# of nattys

Here's the thing. This team is good, they are not great. They've avoided bad losses, but struggled to accumulate a lot of good ones. It hurts 10X worse because so many of them happened at home, that is straight up unacceptable. A good thing: The team thankfully wasn't built for just one year of success. Lots of talented freshmen, and a very young bullpen. Retaining key pieces will be of utmost importance. Last thing: We've seen seasons end worse than this, and then been in Omaha. Nothing is final, and McPherson coming back and getting into a rhythm again will be key. Don't let a baseball game ruin your weekend!

I don't think hiring him was a mistake. There has not been much historical success in one year rebuilds in baseball. I think they have built this team to be a solid foundation for the next few years. Oak is also notorious for mediocre seasons with very good postseasons. I'll take that 10 times out of 10

@HailStateBB National seed is out of the question. We will likely lose again next weekend and will make hosting a regional unlikely as well. If we can somehow pull out a series win next weekend we should at least host aregional. We most definitely are not as good as we all had hoped we were.

@willscards Irrelevant to the conversation. But I watch a lot of baseball and study the game. I would agree with you if he wasn't playing at such a high level on the best team in the nation. But an ugly swing does not correlate to lack of production.

@willscards What about the 12-33 before that? Does that not count? Again, no context for these numbers. For all we know, .255 against Friday aces is really good for college hitting prospects. I’m not saying it is or isn’t, but without that information it’s hard to evaluate that stat.

@bobbruinbear @willscards The Friday night numbers are alarming in an overall weak league. No one knows if he will kill it. A 1st round pick or even the 1st pick in the draft does not guarantee success. With that being said I hope he is an all star and has a great career.
