At just 0.341%, Tempe's property tax rate is the fourth lowest in the country, according to Construction Coverage's recent ranking of state, county and city property taxes. This is lower than the Arizona average and neighboring cities Chandler and Phoenix. Property tax rates are one of several factors that shape how cities plan for long-term services, infrastructure and community investments. Tempe’s rate reflects how we balance revenue sources while maintaining core services. For residents and businesses, property tax can influence where people decide to live, work or invest. Tempe is updating the construction codes that guide how homes and buildings are built in our community. Cities periodically update these codes to stay aligned with national standards and improvements in safety and construction practices. Tempe last updated its codes in 2018. For most homeowners, the proposed updates are not expected to significantly change the cost or process of typical home projects. Many of the changes are administrative or clarify existing requirements. Read a summary of the changes at tempe.gov/ProposedCodeCh…. Residents and community members are invited to learn more about the proposed changes and share feedback at an upcoming public meeting. Can’t make the meetings? Fill out a comment card to share your input at bit.ly/47MGEqH Public meetings on Wednesday, April 1 • Virtual meeting at noon (Zoom) - Register: bit.ly/3Nq8H8I • In-person meeting at 6 p.m. | Tempe Public Library | 3500 S. Rural Road | Ironwood Classroom

This Saturday, Tempe Fire Medical Rescue is teaming up with the Arizona Burn Foundation and the American Red Cross to install free smoke alarms for residents in older, high-risk homes. We’re looking for volunteers to join us. 🗓 Saturday, March 21 ⏰ 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. 📍 Tempe Fire Administration, 1400 E. March 31 holiday to be renamed We are devastated to learn of the allegations of sexual abuse by Cesar Chavez. We stand with those who have suffered sexual abuse and are renaming our Cesar Chavez holiday. As Tempe has a paid holiday for employees, we will meet with our employee groups this week to discuss a new name, which will then be brought to Tempe City Council for approval.

100 degrees in March? It looks like it may happen this week. Temperatures in Tempe are expected to reach around 100 degrees this week. Typical highs in March are usually in the mid- to upper-70s. As temperatures rise well above normal, the City of Tempe is reminding contractors and residents about heat safety protections and simple steps to stay safe. Last year, Tempe adopted heat safety standards to help protect outdoor workers on City contracts. These standards require: 💧 Cool drinking water ⛱️ Shade or air-conditioned rest areas when temperatures reach 90° ⏱️ Regular hydration breaks 📋 Heat safety plans and worker training Everyone can take simple steps to stay safe in the heat: • Drink water regularly • Take breaks in shade or air conditioning • Avoid strenuous activity during peak heat • Watch for signs of heat illness Learn more: tempe.gov/HeatSafety
