Caicedo is so secure. He never loses the ball and always finds a way to turn & progress the ball. Apart from Rodri, I don’t see another midfielder in the PL who’s better at receiving deep under pressure & progressing. Add that to his defensive talent & you see he’s a super midfielder

Woke up thinking about The Cost of Two Mavericks. Listen, I absolutely love top talent and I get why managers manage them the way they do. Keep them fresh, position them high, win the ball and find them early to hurt teams quickly. I understand it. It also usually makes for an exciting game because it leaves space both ways. You leave gaps, the opposition can exploit them too. I watched both Vini and Mbappé live last season. Mbappé worked harder than I expected, but Vini did absolutely nothing out of possession. So for me, you can get away with one maverick, if they produce, but not two at the highest level. Mbappé and Vini covered 18.5km combined. Olise did 11km on his own and still looked as good as anyone on the pitch. We all know there are many factors to winning games, and a lot more to it than just running. But at this stage of the Champions League, the margins are so fine between squads. In the first two games last night, the teams that outran their opponents both won. It’ll be interesting to see how that trend holds over the rest of the games. This famous quote sprang to mind ⬇️ “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
