A few kilometres north of Atikokan, Ont., Steep Rock Lake became the site of one of the most significant mining developments in Canada. Discovered beneath the lake in the late 1930s, the high-grade iron ore deposit helped meet global demand during the Second World War and drove advancements in mining practices across the country. PDAC 2026 reflects growing global momentum for mineral exploration and development. The convention welcomed 32,155 participants from around the world, bringing together the global mineral exploration and mining community for four days of networking, investment discussions and industry dialogue. “There was a clear sense of energy throughout the convention,” said PDAC President Karen Rees. “Strong commodity markets are contributing to optimism across the sector.
