On the 2024 bipartisan border bill: yes, Senate Republicans (following Trump’s lead) blocked it, which was politically shortsighted if the goal was actual fixes. But that came years after the surge was already underway and historic. Trump wasn’t in office when the initial policy reversals and record 2021 numbers hit. And it was the bad policy changes that led to the overwhelming numbers. Ending Remain in Mexico and releasing anyone with an asylum claim into the US was a horrible idea, along with catch and release policy within the US gave a major incentive structure for people to come.

Good on you for your retraction of “she was in charge of the border” 👍🏻
Correction: Border SURGES “massively increased”
Were the Dems in any way, shape or form set up to manage that surge? Hell no
Releasing “massively increased” numbers of asylum claimants, instead of detaining all of them in facilities?
That is a question of appropriating additional budget through Congress
Tell me how Congress appropriated additional resources to manage that “massive surge” or how Trump interfered with proposed legislative measures to manage that surge
Let’s also talk abt how Abbott purposely quick tracked 1000’s out into the interior & refused other practical help to manage the surge
The bigger picture ? Our BROKEN asylum system is not something to be managed by EO’s
It needs legislative action & both the left & right are complicit in that sh!tshow
The Dems did not CREATE the surge after Covid.
They were wholly unprepared to manage it & the GOP ran interference because it suited the campaign messaging. Failing grades all round
The debates around how we, as a nation, want to or should treat asylum claimants once they are IN THE SYSTEM is a separate, but important issue

Breaking News: Democrats released a draft autopsy on Kamala Harris’s defeat in the 2024 election that partly blames Joe Biden’s political operation, and arguing that it failed to position her for success in the race after he dropped out. nyti.ms/4uATd1G
English

Opinion: Many ideas pushed by Biden and Harris helped drive voters away.
If the DNC autopsy is any indication, Democrats still haven’t learned that lesson. usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
English

@USATODAY As a former Democrat still living in a blue state I can tell you they absolutely haven’t learned their lesson. If they put someone up that won’t at least admit we need a strong border then they lose
English

Sugar coat it all you want. The bigger problem was the administration’s overall policy choices. Even with Harris handling long-term diplomacy, the White House and Mayorkas oversaw decisions that massively increased releases into the U.S. interior: catch-and-release at scale, ending Remain in Mexico, pausing interior enforcement, and expanding parole programs. Millions of migrants were allowed in pending asylum hearings that often take years because of enormous court backlogs (now over 3 million cases).
English

@ThinkusU @nytimes “Terrible” is a relative term
We could do with a dose of old ‘n doddery right now 🤷🏼♀️
And Harris was tasked with identifying immigration causes & solutions from South American countries - she was not charged with border control - that was Majorcas
The more you know 🤷🏼♀️

@USATODAY No one cares. Another celeb looking for relevance and left wing brownie points

@RepBonamici Democrats have been playing the same tired broken record of “that’s racist, you’re a Nazi!” All while doing nothing for Americans. How many unnecessary murders, rapes and other crimes were committed by illegals with open borders policy?
English

@RepJasmine Everyone knows it’s the left that is more violent. You can’t gaslight your way out of this. Nobody takes you seriously

We still haven’t had a real hearing on the rise of white supremacist violence, the lives lost, or the extremist groups empowered by dangerous Republican rhetoric.
But somehow, Republicans found time to hold a hearing claiming the Southern Poverty Law Center is “manufacturing hate.”
Meanwhile, they’re defending an almost $2 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund that could put money in the pockets of January 6 extremists — including people tied to white supremacist groups that attacked our democracy.
Y’all can miss me with the performative outrage.

@NYCMayor Socialists are so concerned about government handouts because their platform thrives on saying they can give people free stuff. When that power is not controlled y them they will blame everyone trying to keep people productive and happy

Food stamp work requirements don’t create jobs, they create hunger.
If the federal government wanted to help people find work, it would invest in public jobs programs and guarantee a living wage.
Instead, it’s punishing people who are already struggling to survive.
These rules took effect on March 1, meaning benefit reductions could begin as early as June 1.
Find out whether you’re subject to these requirements — and how to stay compliant — by calling 718-SNAP-NOW (718-762-7669).

🚨 New federal rules mean that New Yorkers ages 18-64 must now meet work requirements to keep their SNAP benefits. These rules took effect on 3/1, which means reductions in benefits could occur as early as 6/1. Need help? CALL 718-SNAP-NOW (718-762-7669).
